Army

The military power of Leverchelle is decentralized, with each noble family maintaining its own Compagnie des Lances—private retinues of knights, men-at-arms, and mercenaries. In times of war, the Protecteur may call upon these forces, but compliance is not guaranteed, as each noble house weighs its own interests before committing troops.

The greatest of these knightly orders is the Chevaliers de la République, an elite force sworn to the republic rather than any single noble family. Formed after Leverchelle’s first independence war, the Chevaliers act as enforcers of the state’s authority and defenders against internal strife.
