Faction Kit Requirement

As alluded to in other tabs, there are some elements of garb and attire that members of the Arcana Obscura are particularly known for.

Masks

The masks carried by the Arcana Obscura are perhaps their most signature trapping. The true purpose and meaning of these masks are all but unknown to outsiders; although, many theories abound. The only thing commonly agreed upon is that the masks of the Obscura must have some connection to the Labyrinth Unending at the core of their philosophy.

Everyone in the Arcana Obscura is required to carry a mask. Members do not need to wear the mask if they so choose, simply having it on their person is enough. Members need not be limited to one mask either, some carry several or change the one they wear depending on the circumstances. Most members customize their masks to better reflect the personal meaning they have. The Steps of the Journey and the motifs of the major covens are great places to start when looking for inspiration.

OOC Note: The masks favored by the Arcana Obscura are more akin to theater or masquerade half- or full-masks or seer veils. Full head coverings, Halloween or Latex/rubber masks are not appropriate for this component of a character's kit.

Other Aesthetics

Vestiges of the Crimson Years

Though it was once common practice across the entirety of the Obscura, few covens still practice haemomancy with the same intensity as they once did. Their Stained-Sages and Red-Hunters were once easily recognized by the smears and sigils and vessels of life's essence they carried. The practice is far from forbidden however. It is still a potent tool in the Obscura's arsenal, one which its members will turn to when other methods fall short.

As such, many members of the Arcana Obscura will still carry small blades and containers suitable for liquids. Most outsiders assume these accessories are largely ceremonial, but when the need arises, their effectiveness becomes clear.

Ritual daggers and specially prepared bowls or phials are the most common implements seen carried by members of the Arcana Obscura to mark their ties to the Crimson Years.

Note: players should ensure that any such implements or accessories are LARP-safe if they intend to bring them on the battlefield or on quests

Trappings of the Covens

Each of the major covens have their preferred methods of practicing the arcane arts. These disciplines come with their own "tools of the trade". Most members of the Arcana Obscura carry ritual foci and spellcasting implements indicative of the mystic traditions of their covens.

Even the more martial initiates of the faction still carry things like talismans or charms to ward off or harness magical energies or small divinatory tools like pendulums, runestones, or cards to inform decision-making. These minor trappings still tend to reflect the style of whichever coven the member in question belongs to.
