History

Culture

A kingdom of culture, Reynesse is renowned for its wine, plays and tournaments; the people of Reynesse are content in their lives of mostly luxury, even the peasants can at night sleep well knowing their borders are well manned with forts with the finest knights in the realm. Being the home of knighthood itself and the sweet scent of the vineyards would help any man, woman or child sleep well at night.

Child of Auresia

The Kingdom of Reynesse has a long and bountiful past. Born out of Auresia with King Marus II dividing his lands between his two sons on his death in 1355 BF, Reynesse has since unified twice with their parent state Auresia, doing so during the Line of Tritum in 705 BF - 501 BF and during the period of the Empire of Poseia 97 BF - 1 AF. These two periods have had a lasting effect on the Kingdom of Reynesse, before the Era of Tritum, Reynesse lived in peaceful prosperity for the most part, the vineyards were plentiful every harvest and the trade they conducted with Auresia and beyond the Midal Sea with the states to the east brought great wealth.

Conflict with Cathringia

However, the union with Auresia brought with it conflict. Cathringia and Reynesse had historically been ambivalent to one another. Cathringia was often occupied with the Ogkanic incursions to the south and Reynesse with their bustling trade to care for the other. With the dynasty of Tritum on both the throne of Reynesse and Auresia. Cathringia was isolated, and the trade it did manage across the Midal Sea grew even more sparse as the two nations to the north monopolised the sea.

Fearing that without their access to the foreign trade routes for food, the Ogkan may overrun their arable lands and force them into submission. Cathrignia launched an attack on Reynesse across the Strait of Schal, the attack was quick and after a few short battles, Reynesse which had never been a military power surrendered to the Cathringians signing across sways of land west of the Strait of Schal over to them. As years passed, the native Reynessians who lived there were forced northwards into the Reynessians' heartlands, bringing with them stories of their lost lands and homes.

In the following years, many of the displaced vowed to protect the borders of Reynesse at all costs, taking a vow of honour and chivalry and thus the renown Knights of Reynesse were born. In the following centuries, Cathrignia and Reynesse have fought often and fiercely with victorious trade between the nations, but the Knights of Reynesse have stood by their vow and no inch of land has been ceded to the Cathrginians since.

Empire to Freedom

Incorporated in the Empire of Poseia willingly in 97 BF, Reynesse was one of the few and last states to succeed peacefully from Auresia following the Great Fracture and doing so marked the period known as ‘After Fracture’. The two lands may now speak a different language and hold different customs, dynasties and traditions, but their heritage remains. It is this heritage that causes so many to call for the two lands to unite once more. However, the current King is a popular man, King Loin III, son of Queen Belle I and her royal consort, Prince Olivier, the Duke of Liles and still holds the loyalty of the vast majority of the kingdom.
