Key Information

Luck is for the Dead

Sahuagin are devotees of the wargod Phalanx, to the most zealous expression. Their god is more muted than his sahuagin templars. To the sahuagin, the act of killing is always a virtue as long as it isn’t against other sahuagin, therefore the act of dying during a battle against others is also virtuous. Those that don’t die during battle will be resurrected into ghost versions, known as sword wraiths. While they are such a wraith, their body is still connected to the ghost only losing their mind. Sword wraiths will look with vacant eyes, with skin that is translucent.

History

While outside of their settlements, Sahuagin search up brine pools¹ to hide in during their rest. The misty brine obscures them from any creature, as such the pools are dangerous to swim past. One of the night guards can snatch up a fish or humanoid with complete surprise, granted the creature is bleeding otherwise the sahuagin can sense a creature through the brine.
Tritons know sahuagin enjoy these pools as their resting grounds and will trap them with hunting traps or other ambushing equipment.

A brine pool is a contained pool of fog underwater, sometimes called underwater lakes. Brine is water that is saturated with higher concentrations of salt. Ranging from 4% to 26%, sahuagin are one of the only creatures that can breathe inside the brine pool, up to a concentration of 18%. The brine pools that contain hydrogen sulphide or methane are still toxic.

Community

Sahuagin culture is more an art than a science, they are rarely inside of their own settlements where everyone is a hunter. The children stay inside the settlement to make equipment until they are at the adult age of 9.

Culture

Blood Spoiled waters

Sahuagin always travel with their sharks considering them as important as humans do their brothers, such a kinship isn’t common within Sahuagin culture, they only love war and those who can do it well. Sharks are great during search missions, they can smell blood² from a quarter miles away. While near the coast, the sahuagin upturn the shore floor to make a dust cloud, then with the telepathic bond that they have with their chosen shark, they attack any helpless shore dweller.

Sharks are able to smell blood from a quarter mile with relative ease, without the sahuagins telepathy, it wouldn’t attack anything that isn’t a fish. The shark is able to attack any heavily obscured creature on the shoreline because of its Ampullae of Lorenzini which is an organ that detects electric fields. A shark would commonly only attack to learn what it senses, not to kill, this is called a bite test.
