The Wayfinder

Every journey exists in time as much as space.
The Wayfinder is the keeper of direction, distance, and the passage of days.

Without a Wayfinder, weeks blur together, seasons pass unnoticed, and the party loses track of where they stand in the wider world. With one, travel has context, time has weight, and the world feels alive.

Core Responsibilities

Timekeeping & Calendar Awareness

Track the passage of time and its meaning.

  • Keep record of the current date and time

  • Track the progression of weeks, months, and seasons

  • Announce seasonal changes, holidays, and notable calendar events

  • Remind the party when time-sensitive events approach or expire

Orientation & Distance

Maintain awareness of where the party is in the world.

  • Use the Geographic Map to track position and distance

  • Calculate approximate travel times between locations

  • Inform the party how long journeys are expected to take

  • Clarify how terrain or weather may affect travel duration

Advisory Role

Provide information, not direction.

  • Inform the party of risks, delays, or time costs

  • Answer questions about distance, time, and environmental context

  • Highlight consequences of travel choices without deciding for the group

The Wayfinder never chooses the route — only explains it.

Mechanical Benefits

You gain the following benefits as the Wayfinder:

  • Unerring Direction
You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Survival checks to Sense Direction.

  • Trail Sense
You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Survival checks to Track.

These bonuses reflect the Wayfinder’s constant attention to landmarks, terrain, and the passage of time.

Role Expectations

The Wayfinder is expected to:

  • Keep time visible and relevant

  • Speak up when seasons change or deadlines approach

  • Anchor the party in the reality of distance and duration

The Wayfinder does not manage supplies, dictate plans, or take command.

Role Philosophy

The Wayfinder does not lead the party forward.
They mark the road, measure the days, and remind the group that the world moves whether they do or not.

Time is the only resource that never waits.
Ignore it, and the journey will decide for you.

Direction is choice.
Time is consequence.
