Adapted From Gruul Clans and The Philosophy of Red-Green

"Civilization is a cage. The Old Ways call to us. We tear down your walls, reclaim what was stolen, and return to the wild state where the strong thrive and the authentic survive. Thinking is your prison. Instinct is our freedom."

In the Starfall Galaxy, there are those who understand that the towering spires, gleaming stations, and complex laws of the Void Exchange are not progress—they are chains. Red-Green Devotion represents the synthesis of primal instinct and natural order—the belief that the only truth is what you feel in your gut, that the strong must thrive, and that any artificial structure that restricts authentic existence must be smashed.

Red-Green

Red, Green
Red-Green Devotion seeks to tear down artificial constraints and return to primal authenticity. Can manifest as tribes that live in harmony with natural cycles while rejecting civilization, or as rampaging hordes that smash cities to reclaim the wild.

Component Devotions Red and Green

Mana Current: Primal instinct and natural order; smashing civilization to reclaim the wild
Virtues: Authentic living, primal wisdom, rejection of artificial constraints, survival of the strong, community in small tribes
Vices: Rampaging destruction, anti-civilization fanaticism, "might makes right" brutality, rejection of all thinking, anarchic violence

Affinity: Red–Green are allied, sharing authenticity, instinct, and rejection of artificial constraints. Missing Blue creates the defining tension: no patience, no planning, no thinking—only acting.

Rivalry: Strong opposition to Blue (civilization, knowledge, artifice) and White (artificial order, laws, hierarchy). Complex relationship with Black (both value strength, but Red-Green rejects selfish ambition).

Narrative Role: Red-Green combines primal instinct with natural order to live authentically and reject civilization. In Starfall, Red-Green manifests in The Primal Exchange—a Void Exchange faction that handles raw resource extraction, salvage, and "wildcat" operations through tribal clans.

Character Examples:

  • Primal Exchange clan leaders who "feel" where the richest ore deposits are

  • Salvage berserkers who tear apart old stations with their bare hands

  • Wildcat security forces that intimidate through raw ferocity

  • Tribal shamans who commune with "the Old Ways" of the cosmos

  • Anti-civilization activists who sabotage "artificial" infrastructure

  • Primal merchants who trade on gut instinct and strength

Mechanical Application: Circumstance bonus when dealing with primal cultures, salvage operations, raw resource extraction, and anti-civilization movements. Bonus to Coerce/Demoralize against technologists, bureaucrats, and those who rely on "thinking over feeling."

Red-Green Magic: When spellcasters manifest Red-Green aligned spells, they feel a sense of primal certainty—the absolute conviction that your gut is right, the natural order is on your side, and artificial constraints must be destroyed. The magic feels ancient and explosive, like the universe's own wildness breaking through.

The Old Ways

Red-Green Devotion begins with a simple premise: civilization is a cage. Red provides the impulsive fury—the desire to break free from all restrictions and act on pure instinct. Green provides the natural wisdom—the understanding that there is an older, truer way of living that civilization has buried.

The Red-Green devotee resolves the tension between their colors by synthesizing them: they live by gut instinct (Red) because they trust it's aligned with natural order (Green). They don't think—they know. They don't plan—they act. They don't accept artificial constraints because they believe the Old Ways show a better path.

This is the philosophy of the wild—one who believes that thinking is a prison, that planning is paralysis, and that the only truth is what you feel in your bones. To Red-Green, the highest calling is authentic existence: living without artificial constraints, following primal instincts, and forcing the galaxy to return to its natural state.

In Starfall Galaxy, this philosophy manifests in The Primal Exchange's approach to the Void Exchange. They don't trade through complex contracts and financial instruments—they trade through strength, instinct, and primal bonds. They get away with their anti-civilization ideology because they provide essential services: raw resource extraction that others can't or won't do, salvage operations that tear apart the dead to feed the living, and "wildcat" security that intimidates through raw ferocity.

The Primal State

The perfect existence, in Red-Green's vision, is one where:

  1. Instinct guides all

    • Gut feelings are truer than any analysis

  2. The strong thrive

    • Might makes right is natural law

  3. Civilization is torn down

    • Cities, laws, and technology are cages

  4. Tribes are the natural unit

    • Small packs where everyone knows their place

  5. Authenticity is absolute

    • Being true to your primal nature is sacred

  6. Thinking is the enemy

    • Knowledge, planning, and artifice are corruption

  7. The Old Ways are remembered

    • Ancient primal wisdom guides everything

This vision can produce genuine communities—tribes that live in harmony with natural cycles, authentic individuals who know themselves completely, and survivors who thrive where civilized people perish. But it can also produce rampaging destruction—hordes that smash cities, fanatics who reject all knowledge, and brutal might-makes-right oppression.

The Red-Green Devotee: A Dual Nature

A devotee of Red-Green Devotion sees themselves as both wild and wise. They act on instinct (Red) because they trust it's aligned with natural order (Green). They are often found in primal cultures, salvage operations, anti-civilization movements, and anywhere that requires rejecting artificial constraints.

The Primal Survivor

At their best, Red-Green devotees are:

  • Authentic individuals who know themselves completely and live without artifice

  • Primal leaders whose gut instincts guide their tribes to survival

  • Natural warriors who fight with the ferocity of beasts and the wisdom of the wild

  • Community builders who create tight-knit tribes bound by authentic bonds

  • Salvage masters who reclaim what civilization wastes and return it to the cycle

  • True survivors who thrive in conditions that destroy civilized people

These individuals combine Red's raw authenticity with Green's natural wisdom. A Primal Exchange clan leader doesn't need scans to find ore deposits—she "feels" where the richest veins are through gut instinct that generations of primal wisdom have honed.

The Rampaging Destroyer

At their worst, Red-Green devotees become:

  • Anti-civilization fanatics who smash cities and kill technologists

  • Brutal oppressors who enforce "might makes right" without mercy

  • Rampaging destroyers who tear down everything they don't understand

  • Ignorant savages who reject all knowledge as "artificial corruption"

  • Primal fascists who crush the weak in the name of natural law

  • Thoughtless monsters who cannot conceive that thinking has value

The danger of Red-Green is that their destruction feels righteous. A Primal Exchange berserker can tear apart a hospital because "artifice is corruption," slaughter technicians because "knowledge is a cage," and destroy infrastructure because "civilization is a prison," all while genuinely believing he's returning the galaxy to health.

The Tensions and Alliances

Internal Tension and Stabilization

Red-Green is an allied pair:

Fundamental Harmony:

  • Both value authenticity over artifice

  • Both trust instinct over thinking

  • Both reject artificial constraints

  • Both embrace primal existence

Shared Philosophy:

  • Red's impulses are guided by Green's instinctive understanding of natural order

  • Green's acceptance of natural cycles gives Red's chaos a purpose

  • Together they form "Instinct incarnate"youtube

The Synthesis:
Red provides the explosive action, Green provides the natural wisdom that makes that action purposeful. Red wants to smash everything; Green tells Red what needs smashing to restore natural balance.

Relationship with Missing Color

With Blue: Strong Opposition
Blue represents everything Red-Green despises: civilization, knowledge, patience, planning, artifice. Blue says "think carefully"; Red-Green says "act on instinct." Blue's "refined and methodical" approach is the antithesis of Red-Green's primal nature. The Primal Exchange's natural enemy is the Ledger Syndicate and Arbiter's Collective.

With White: Strong Opposition
White's artificial order, laws, and hierarchy are just another cage to smash. White says "maintain order"; Red-Green says "tear down the walls." The Primal Exchange raids Mandala Trust settlements and destroys Commission Family holdings they see as "artificial corruption."

With Black: Complex Relationship
Both Red and Green value strength, but they differ in motivation. Red is individualistic; Green values the community. Black's selfish ambition conflicts with Green's natural order, but Black's willingness to act without moral constraint aligns with Red's impulsivity. The Primal Exchange sometimes works with the Biomass Consortium but despises their exploitation of natural processes.
