Current Duke: Alric Belmore
The Kingdom of Bera rests across the northern plains of Llithe, a vast expanse of fertile land that has shaped the history of the realm since the earliest days of civilization. It is widely regarded as the first true settlement of the Species of Tongue, marking the beginning of the Era of New Beginnings, when scattered peoples first gathered into lasting communities. From this land the earliest cities, laws, and traditions of Llithe were formed. While other regions rose later through trade, innovation, or conquest, Bera’s identity has always been rooted in something simpler and older. It is the land where people first learned how to live together.
The landscape of Bera is dominated by immense rolling plains of deep green grass and rich soil. Rivers cut long silver lines across the countryside, feeding irrigation canals that stretch outward toward distant farmsteads and villages. During the Season of Great Harvest, these plains transform into endless fields of grain, vegetables, and orchard crops that supply nearly every region of Llithe. The harvest of Bera is not merely regional prosperity. It is the foundation that feeds cities, armies, and trade caravans across the entire continent. It is often said that while kings may rule the land, Bera feeds it.
Further north the terrain begins to change. The endless plains slowly rise into the rugged heights of the Highlands, where the earth lifts itself toward the sky in steep hills and stone ridges. These lands feel older and wilder than the farmlands below. The soil grows thinner, the winds colder, and the mountains begin to appear like jagged teeth pushing toward the heavens. Locals often say the Highlands look as though the land itself is trying to reach the Aether, stretching upward toward the unseen forces above the world.
For centuries Bera stood not only as the breadbasket of Llithe but as its political heart. Under the rule of House Berathian, the northern kingdom served as the capital of the entire realm. Governance, agriculture, and military authority were all centered within its cities. The culture of Bera became synonymous with strength, tradition, and honor. Its armies were composed of sworn bannermen and citizen fighters who believed the defense of the land was the responsibility of every able body. Bera’s people viewed themselves as guardians of the realm’s oldest legacy.
That legacy was shaken during the events of Kingdom Come, the devastating civil conflict that ended Berathian rule and reshaped the political structure of Llithe. When the war concluded and the crown passed to House Aurelius, the capital was moved south to Reach. Bera did not fall into ruin, but it lost the position of central authority it had held for generations. The war left scars across its leadership, its cities, and its pride. In the decades that followed, the region turned inward, focusing on rebuilding stability rather than pursuing the aggressive innovation seen elsewhere.
Because of this, Bera now finds itself in a unique position within Llithe. It remains essential to the survival of the realm through its agricultural production, yet it advances more slowly in matters of technology and arcane experimentation. Where Reach pursues innovation and Deso Sera reshapes commerce through bold adaptation, Bera moves with patience and caution. Its people value continuity and reliability over sudden change. Many in the north believe that progress without roots eventually collapses.
Today Bera is governed by House Belmore, the ducal stewards appointed by the crown to oversee the region after the fall of the Berathian dynasty. Their role is one of balance rather than dominance. They ensure that harvests remain steady, that trade flows south toward Reach, and that the northern settlements maintain loyalty to the kingdom. The people of Bera respect their authority, though the memory of Berathian kingship still lingers quietly in the land’s history.
Despite its slower pace of innovation, Bera remains one of the most important regions in Llithe. Its plains continue to produce the food that sustains the realm. Its villages preserve traditions older than any other kingdom. And its Highlands stand as silent reminders of a time when Bera ruled not just the land, but the future of the entire continent.
In many ways, the kingdom is both past and present at once. The foundation upon which Llithe was built still lives within its fields. And though its crown may now sit elsewhere, the beating heart of the realm can still be heard in the winds that pass across Bera’s endless plains.
