The culture of Orkfjarr is a brutalist one. In anicent days, the coasts of Poseia lived in fear of the sails of the barbarious Orkjarric raiders. The Laeguit as they are still known. These raiders were often ousted landowners or second sons, whose position in society grew more minor as the powerful landowners became to centralise the lands of Orkfjarr. As a result, these people sought to seek their fortunes abroad, mostly along the western coast of Poseia, but they have been known to sail further afield in particular calm summer weather.
These individuals would often come back in the autumn months with riches and enough manpower to challenge brothers, fathers or rivals. Or in the cases of the founders of Cathringia and Scyltheld, founded their own kingdoms in more bountiful lands.
More recently however, this proclivity for raiding has reduced somewhat, as the islands have become less and less populous as a result of the human migrations and the rivallry for land has subsided. Although, it is still common for the larger Landowners to organise summer raiding parties for able-bodied men in order to bring back women, gold and, slaves, often as a way of keeping the weaker landowners and free-men under them loyal in the event of a need for protection or continued support in the Beørirfeyn.
Skalds
However, the people of these isles are still as dependant on the sea as ever, and most men feel at home on the waves, whether as fishermen, feeding the people of the islands, traders, sailing to far off places in the search for riches and resources or explores, following in the footsteps of the their Gods.
Farmers
Farming in Orkfjarr is hard. The volcanic soil does its best to offset the cold blistering conditions that batter the isles, but only enough to feed its small population. It has been theorised that it is due to this lack of fertile farmland that prompted the numerous migrations of man from these Isles to Poseia.
Where land is not suitable for farming, such as within the forests of the islands, or the slopes of the non-volcanic mountains, the land is primarily used for the grazing of cattle, sheep, reindeer and, goats.
The Food of Orkfjarr is the most bland and tasteless in most of the known world. With little access to spices and only basic herbs, the diet consists mostly of fish, whales, some meat and, a small variety of vegetables. A favourite meal of the Orkfjarric is roasted Octopus limb with a side of Puffin eggs and steamed collards. When occasion calls for it in great feasts, a Reindeer is often killed and roasted to be eaten, although in the winter, this is often replaced with a shark as Reindeer become the preferred mode of travel.
In regards to alcohol, the Orkfjarr tend to drink ale in lower society and mead in higher society given the expense involved in its production.
