Army

The Standing Army of Auresia is atypical of the rest of the continent, in so far that the rest of the continent tends to gather their armies through a system of feudal lordships, Auresia gathers its through an extensive tax system that allows them to maintain a Standing Army of professional soldiers. The 20 Legions of Auresia are the finest fighting force on the continent, and their skill as soldiers is what allowed Arecius I to quickly bring the continent to heel until his passing whereby those generals under him sought to carve out fiefdoms of their own, unsuccessfully.

As a result, even nearly two centuries later, the Emperor’s of Poseia are careful to provide too much power to their generals, and as such, rivalries amongst the legions has grown, allowing other nations armies to meet them on more level terms in the field of battle.

The legions themselves are composed mostly of heavy infantry, while auxiliaries (foreign nationals, freed slaves) provide much of the light infantry and calavry, in the hope that upon their discharge they would be Auresian citizneship and take a Auresian name to fully integrate into society.

As a result, Auresia could be expected to raise around 30,000 men should the need arise, composed of 20,000 legions and 10,000 auxiliaries.

Common Legionary

Navy

The Auresian Navy is the utmost naval power on mainland Poseia. Serdos, the once capital is the the home of the bulk of the Auresian power at sea. The composition of the navy is as follows: 400 Galleys, 50 Carracks, 100 Caravels, 250 Cogs.

For the most part, the dominance of the Auresian navy is contained to the Intemare Sea, where the quick and powerful Galleys are able control the mostly calm seas, with their only equals being the trading city states of Portigoa and Marella.

Meanwhile, the smaller force of Carracks and Caravels is more suited to the rougher Midal Sea, where larger ships are most suited, and less likely to be overwhelmed by the fury of the sea. Here however, they are rivalled by the Tereonians for utmost control, who rely on their extensive network of trade routes between Naplica and Poseia to amass their wealth and thereby require a superior force of ocean-going vessels.
