Characters

• Ahzarax: An ancient golden dragon known as the Shield of the Vey. He recognizes Torrin as the rightful prince and pledges to help him reclaim his homeland.

• Angela Thedon: The name associated with the Tangled One in Whisper and Ernan's former-life memory. She appears as their loving mother in that life.

• Zyltrix: An ancient guide who assembles Whisper, Ernan, Angela Thedon, Horatio, and Mathias Ephelthine for a mission into Tyve.

• Horatio: A knight who accompanies Whisper and Ernan's former-life party into Tyve.

• Mathias Ephelthine: A wizard who accompanies the former-life party and warns of the darkness beyond the Maelstrom.

• Normandy Borthal: Sacrifices his physical body to release the Deathless Flame and save Keph. His soul becomes bound within the flame.

• Silas: Takes Helvegen against Bjorn's resistance and becomes the new vessel for the Deathless Flame and its bound souls.

• Agaral: Whisper's improvised name for the Tangled One's imprisoned former servant. He provides the coral rune but states that Agaral is not his true name.

Factions and Peoples

• The Vey: Torrin's forgotten people. Ahzarax identifies Torrin as their rightful prince.

• The Chain: A controlled army that assaults Keph without fear or self-preservation. Its forces are destroyed after Normandy empowers the defenders.

• The Dredged: Creatures bound to the Tangled One whose power weakens following her death.

Artifacts and Items

• Spear of Avorinth: Also called the Scepter of Valens Avarith, the Spear of the Aphelion, and the Bane of Kypheron. It reforms in dragonfire, protects Torrin and Vyr from Ahzarax's flames, and confirms Torrin's royal claim.

• Whisper's Crossbow: A divine weapon from Kellis capable of piercing the Tangled One's defenses. Whisper and Ernan use it together to destroy her.

• Bronze Amulet: A ship's-wheel-shaped amulet that reveals a former life shared by Whisper and Ernan.

• Coral Rune: A rune provided by Agaral that opens the portal to the Tangled One's submerged domain.

• Deathless Flame: Emrys's ancient chartreuse flame. It heals allies, empowers their weapons, and preserves the souls bound within it.

• Helvegen: Bjorn's all-blade. It becomes the vessel for the Deathless Flame until Silas takes it.
