Characters
Tara Matthews: A Knight of Ithelias transformed into a fishlike being after entering a magical mirror. She crosses the reservoir and helps the knights investigate the sealed island.
X-Rel Glindor: A former prisoner of the Tangled One who was cast into Keph's reservoir and transformed. He reveals the approximate route to her domain while trying to secure his freedom.
Sabu: A ranger among the Knights of Ithelias who helps the others cross the reservoir and survive the Varian Serpent.
Torrin: Challenges the surviving Vey to reject genocide and remember hope. He later uses the incomplete Crystallic to control a dying dragon and destroy Thalmos.
Thalmos: The most militant of the surviving Vey. He attempts to overload the great crystal beneath Slyphash and retrieves the dark scepter before being consumed by dragonfire.
Phelan: A surviving Vey who recognizes Torrin and declares him king. Torrin's appeal begins restoring Phelan's memories and willingness to imagine another path.
Melisandre: A scarred Vey survivor who reveals the wounds left by the Chain. She remains uncertain whether Torrin's compassion can preserve their people.
Nixon: A Vey restored when Torrin and the other survivors collectively remember light, hope, and the laughter of children. He returns without memories of his former life.
Gods and Religion
The Tangled One: A powerful being whose domain lies southwest of the Shattered Isles. X-Rel claims that she tortured him and cast him into Keph's reservoir through a mirror.
Sethis: The divine power who protected and guided the exiled Vey after they were rejected by their own people.
Kypheron: The ancient dragon god associated with Mount Kyphos. The eruption at the episode's end suggests that the catastrophe beneath Slyphash has disturbed his slumber.
Keeper of Ends: A mysterious threat named by the Treus conduit. The crystalline guide declares that the knights have been chosen to save Nabell from this power.
Organizations and Societies
Knights of Ithelias: Explore Keph's reservoir, survive the Varian Serpent, and uncover a hidden conduit connected to Treus.
Harbingers of Light: Confront the surviving Vey at Slyphash and attempt to stop Thalmos from destroying the crystal beneath the fortress.
The Vey: Torrin's nearly forgotten people. Their survivors are divided between Thalmos's campaign of vengeance and Torrin's appeal to hope, restraint, and coexistence.
The Chain: The empire responsible for enslaving and torturing several surviving Vey. Its atrocities fuel the vengeance advocated by Thalmos and the others.
Creatures and Nature
Varian Serpent: A massive creature inhabiting the black reservoir beneath Keph. The knights dislodge one of its teeth and escape into the sealed island after it nearly devours several of them.
Captive Dragons: Two ancient dragons imprisoned beneath Slyphash and drained of their light. One dies while Torrin uses the Crystallic to direct its final fire against Thalmos.
Shrikes: Winged mounts used by the Harbingers and their allies to travel across Tyve.
Items and Technology
Crystallic: A broken divine artifact carried by Torrin. Its incomplete pieces allow him to influence the captive dragons, but using it burns away part of his will.
Dark Scepter: A black and gold artifact retrieved by Thalmos through the breaking crystal. It survives the dragon's blue fire and appears to contain or channel another presence.
Varian Serpent Tooth: A tooth removed from the reservoir creature. When placed against the island's seal, it awakens the hidden runes and opens the passage below.
Transfiguration Key: A magical key found within the Treus conduit. It bends into the form most pleasing to the mind of whoever holds it.
Shattered Silver Mirror: A broken mirror with an ornate golden frame found beneath Keph. Its silver glass resembles an uncorrupted form of the black mirrors encountered elsewhere.
Treus Gifts: Powerful magical items stored within the hidden chamber. The knights believe that the objects may have been intended for chosen recipients rather than for themselves.
Magic and Cosmology
Treus Conduit: An ancient magical system that drains nearby spellcasters, forms a crystalline guide, and projects the route toward the hidden isle of Treus.
Collective Remembrance: The shared memory of the surviving Vey restores Nixon to existence when they remember light, hope, and the laughter of their children.
Dragon-Light Siphoning: The Vey process of extracting light from captive dragons and converting it into dark glints. Thalmos forces the great crystal beyond its limits by drawing out both light and darkness.
Plague Burst: The explosion beneath Slyphash releases a wave of darkness, fire, and light that exposes the Harbingers to the plague. Torrin and Aronin fail to resist it.
Locations and Realms
Keph Reservoir: A black underground lake beneath the keep. It contains the Varian Serpent, the sealed island, and the hidden Treus conduit.
Hidden Isle of Treus: A place beyond Tyve that cannot be reached while the island remains sequestered. The conduit shows the knights a route marked by a jagged rock and an unfamiliar constellation.
Slyphash: A ruined Veyan fortress where the surviving Vey imprison dragons and manufacture dark glints.
Shattered Isles: A region southwest of Tyve's mainland. X-Rel claims that the hidden route to the Tangled One lies beyond the islands and the Maelstrom.
Mount Kyphos: The great volcanic mountain associated with Kypheron. It erupts after the crystal beneath Slyphash explodes.
History and Lore
Return of Nixon: Torrin's appeal causes the surviving Vey to remember enough of their lost people to restore Nixon from oblivion.
Veyan Exile: The surviving Vey describe being cast out for following Sethis and seeking forbidden knowledge of death. Their suffering, enslavement, and erasure now divide them over whether vengeance can restore their civilization.
Fall of Thalmos: Thalmos overloads the dragon crystal, retrieves the dark scepter, and is consumed by the blue fire of a dying dragon under Torrin's control.
Eruption of Mount Kyphos: The crystal's destruction opens a fissure through the land and awakens the volcano associated with the ancient dragon god.
