Characters
Nixon: A restored Vey whose memories of painting allow him to create a doorway inside the hidden complex. The green-eyed god erases him from existence after the Black Mirror of Ordos is uncovered.
Torrin: Retains fractured memories of Nixon and the erased Vey because of his connection to their people. He breaks through the wall left behind when Nixon's painted doorway disappears.
Normandy Borthal: Carries the dark scepter into the mirror vault. The mirror draws upon his shadow and the scepter's power while Ulvarian Titus speaks into his mind.
Bjorn: Sees the true Orion Blade within King Riphus's sanctum when he looks into the Black Mirror of Ordos.
Helena: Spends the Harbingers' collected light to open the sealed chambers. The mirror later shows her Iris and Lily within their shop on the Southern Eye.
Grick Vrash Green: The true name of Trash King. He reunites with Zandra, whom he calls Cecil, and supplies the tarp used to cover the black mirror.
Zandra: A survivor living at the Twilight Temple. Trash King recognizes her as Cecil, revealing a connection between them from before Tyve.
Sabu: Appears among the Knights of Ithelias after Nixon is erased, occupying a place within the altered history that the Harbingers accept without question.
Danimal: A Slyphash builder recruited to assess whether water from Aurorius Falls can be carried to Keph through an aqueduct.
Blue-Robed Arcanium Founder: A scarred, one-eyed researcher who welcomes the Harbingers to the tower above Aurorius Falls. He says they are late, expects Brill, and knows about Torrin's compass.
Gods and Religion
The Green-Eyed God: A power associated with the Black Mirrors of Ordos and the Untelling. Its influence removes Nixon from existence and erases nearly every memory and consequence connected to him.
Kypheron: The awakened dragon god created to burn the world. Torrin identifies Kypheron's awakening as a fixed event that remains despite the erasure of the Vey involved.
Ulvarian Titus: The ancient owner of Normandy's dark scepter and a former enemy of Zandra's brother. His voice replaces Emrys's within Normandy's mind as the mirror attempts to draw in the scepter.
Organizations and Societies
Harbingers of Light: Open the sealed chambers beneath the Twilight Temple, survive the Black Mirror of Ordos, and travel to Aurorius Falls in search of water for Keph.
The Vey: An ancient people tied to Torrin and the War of Fang and Fire. Nixon's erasure also removes five Vey connected to him, leaving Rue as the only surviving member at the Twilight Temple.
The Arcanium: A secret research organization whose founders occupy the tower above Aurorius Falls. One of them claims that the Harbingers' arrival was expected.
Crystalline Order: An ancient magical order that remembers the green-eyed god in order to suppress knowledge of it. Its symbol appears upon the clasp worn by the Arcanium founder.
Knights of Ithelias: A band of knights at Keph who explored the gorge, maimed the Varian Serpent, and recovered several ancient artifacts without restoring the keep's water supply.
The Chain: The army threatening Keph after Bjorn and Torrin reject its emissary's demand for submission.
Creatures and Nature
Shrikes: Winged mounts used by the Harbingers to cross the Sheer Peaks and reach Aurorius Falls. Bjork leaves his shrike with Torrin so the Veyan prince can return to Slyphash if necessary.
Varian Serpent: A massive creature living in the reservoir beneath Keph. The Knights of Ithelias maim it, but its blood leaves the water contaminated and the creature remains alive.
Argylus: A glasslike creature at the Twilight Temple that confronts people with painful truths. Solitude tells Trash King that he is alone before the pirate reunites with Zandra.
Cloud-Bound Creature: An unseen, enormous being whose movement ripples through the cloud cover above the Sheer Peaks. The Harbingers hear its roar while flying toward Aurorius Falls.
Items and Technology
Black Mirror of Ordos: A solid black mirror with golden edges sealed beneath the Twilight Temple. It shows each viewer a different distant place, interacts with Normandy's scepter, and allows the green-eyed god to erase Nixon.
Dark Scepter: A black and gold artifact once carried by Ulvarian Titus and now borne by Normandy. It becomes rigid, glows, and pulls Normandy's shadow toward the black mirror when the two artifacts are brought together.
Sun Medallion: A medallion bearing a sun pierced by a beam of light. It reveals a vision of Valens Avarith, unlocks the mirror's Veyan casing, and later opens into the shape of an unidentified landmass.
Glamour Forge: A Veyan forge fueled by glints and blue flame. It can shine weapons and armor, making them more effective against the Lightless and Shadowless.
Recovered Artifacts: Ancient items found by the Knights of Ithelias beneath Keph, including The Language of the Angels, a teleportation stone, climbing gloves, a war horn, a floating hooded lantern, an unidentified magical orb, and a prototype chained box.
Torrin's Compass: A device connected to the Crystallic. The Arcanium founder knows Torrin carries it and suggests that using it more often would have brought the Harbingers to the tower sooner.
Magic and Cosmology
The Untelling: The green-eyed god's power to remove a person from existence rather than merely kill them or alter time. The erasure removes memories, relationships, creations, and other consequences of the victim's life.
Conflicting Reality: The altered history created after Nixon's erasure. Sabu occupies a place among the group, the Vey connected to Nixon are gone, and the Harbingers remember events without understanding the missing causes.
Painted Doorway: A doorway Nixon creates by painting the empty room as it once existed. It becomes physically real until his Untelling removes both the painting and the passage from history.
Shining: The Veyan process of infusing a weapon or armor with glints through a glamour forge. Phelan and Melisandre begin shining Helena's arrows before their erasure leaves the work unfinished.
Light of the Twilight Temple: Energy gathered and stored by the Harbingers. Helena spends five measures of it through the statue of Cephas to unlock the hidden chambers.

Twilight Temple: A sanctuary containing the statue of Cephas, the glamour forge, and the hidden complex concealing the Black Mirror of Ordos.
Mirror Vault: The buried chamber beneath the Twilight Temple where chains, hardened Veyan magic, and the sun medallion seal the Black Mirror of Ordos.
Keph: A keep threatened by the Chain and deprived of clean water after the Varian Serpent contaminates its reservoir.
Keph Gorge: The underground region explored by the Knights of Ithelias. It contains the Varian Serpent, ancient artifacts, and passages beneath the keep.
Aurorius Falls: An immense waterfall within the Sheer Peaks. The Harbingers travel there to evaluate it as a possible source of water for Keph.
Arcanium Tower: A white and blue tower rising from a temperate forest above Aurorius Falls. The Arcanium's founders wait within it for the Harbingers.
Sheer Peaks: The immense mountain range surrounding Aurorius Falls and the Arcanium tower. Something enormous moves within its cloud cover.
Southern Eye: The distant settlement where Iris and Lily remain. Helena sees their shop when she looks into the Black Mirror of Ordos.
History and Lore
Nixon's Untelling: The green-eyed god erases Nixon after the Black Mirror of Ordos is opened. His disappearance removes his painted doorway and five Vey connected to him while leaving only fractured memories in Torrin.
War of Fang and Fire: The ancient war between the Vey and the dragons. The sun medallion shows Valens Avarith raising the Spear of Avorinth and commanding his people to end the war by bringing down the dragon god.
Sigil of the Forgotten King: Ilk identifies the sun medallion as the symbol of a king who concealed something precious and has become difficult to remember.
