The Magocracy of Rose

Image

Rose’s Magocracy emerged from a small team of wizards who defended one of the Amber Trees against monsters from the Crater. Led by Meriel Roserise, a witch of immense power, the group grew from a guild into a state and eventually became the cradle of magic in the world of Vitallia. Over time, Rose evolved into a kingdom where magic thrives and is taught in schools. However, the strict monarchy of the queen has caused turmoil and distress across the nation.

Campaigning in Rose

  • Civilization and learning flourish in Rose, as the nation defends itself from monsters spawned by the nearby Crater.

  • Magical education is a top priority, and strict laws govern the cities.

  • Roads beyond the cities are dangerous, plagued by roaming monsters.

  • Magic is central to education, and women are highly esteemed for their magical abilities.

  • Adventurers in Rose commonly encounter rebels and frequent monster attacks.

Rosian People

  • Most citizens grow to become magic users.

  • Those not practicing magic directly become alchemists, enchanters, or merchants.

  • Some join the military, training in special units that combine magic and weaponry.

  • Rosians rarely mingle with outsiders and can appear arrogant.

  • Education levels are generally high, regardless of social rank.

The Dangers of Rose

  • Archmages hold power in every city, while the Queen resides in the capital.

  • A Royal Pool of Magic channels power from the Archmages to the Queen, giving her almost absolute control over her subjects.

  • Crime is dealt with directly and efficiently due to this centralized magical authority.

Rosian Customs

  • Rose is a Magocracy: authority is defined by magical power as well as wealth.

  • Only magicians can hold positions of authority; those without magic are considered illiterate.

  • Apprentices of wizards are treated like squires to knights.

  • The dead are stored in glass sarcophagi.

  • City lords and ladies are called Archmages and must submit magical energy to the Royal Pool of Magic.

  • Weddings do not exist; instead, the Dareym ritual forms a magical bond between two people.

  • Warriors capable of wielding magic are called Navarune, forming the core of the royal army.

  • Outlaws face brutal punishment, often placed on large wheels at city entrances where their bones are crushed.
