Overview
Ashendel is a land of striking contrasts nestled on the upper northwestern coast of Dunshar. This rugged territory boasts a vast, sprawling valley at its heart, bordered by the imposing slopes of Mount Ashendel, a small yet active volcano that lends its name to the region. From the volcanic peaks in the northeast to the lush, fertile flats at the valley's mouth in the southwest, Ashendel is a realm of both beauty and danger.
Geographically isolated, Ashendel is shielded from the outside world by treacherous natural barriers. The roaring ocean lies to the west, while sulphurous moorland and jagged mountains loom on its landward borders, creating a unique and enigmatic environment. These formidable landscapes foster a distinct character within Ashendel, making it a place of mystery to some.
Mount Ashendel frequently rumbles with small-scale eruptions, scattering fiery magma across its slopes and sending plumes of ash high into the sky. The tremors and ash falls serve as a constant reminder of the raw power of nature, affecting the entire region and signalling both peril and opportunity for its inhabitants.
Despite the sparse vegetation, volcanic activity, and other hazards, the region is home to a resilient population. Rich in natural resources such as various metals, gemstones, and other materials, Ashendel has attracted a healthy population of miners and tradesmen. Currently, the region is occupied by Ashmuth (Nation), based in the city of the same name and located in the region's southern parts.

In the center lies the fertile valley, along with Ashendel Basin and Wyrm's Valley to the south, which are essential for agriculture and settlement. To the east, marshlands formed by soft earth and volcanic ash serve as vital source of water to the regions inhabitatants.
To the west, the rugged coastline of Orisk Gap features dramatic cliffs and turbulent waters, providing opportunities for trade, fishing, and other resources. Overall, Ashendel's geography showcases a blend of mountains, fertile valleys, marshlands, and coastal landscapes, shaping its ecological enviroment as wellas it's people.
People of Ashendel
The City-State of Ashmuth has controlled Ashendel since the early days of the region's post-empire history. Over the course of a thousand years, Ashendel has developed a strong culture centered around trade and profit. In this land, deals and contracts are considered sacred, and significant ceremonies often accompany the most promising and lucrative opportunities. Although humans make up the majority of the population, Ashmuths and it's people are known for their lack of bias, making it common to see individuals of other races—such as elves, halflings, and dwarves—occupying various tiers of citizenship within the small nation.
Fauna & Flora
The fauna and flora of the region is fairly typical of the Dunshar territories, although the overall fertility of the land has suffered thanks to the volcanic activity in the region, resulting in spare vegatation and a fairly low population of prey animals such as hare, dear, etc. The mountains in the southern areas of the region are known to harbour monstrosities such as Wyverns, trolls and similar creatures, which further depletes the regions population of mundane wildlife, and posses a considerable threat to those travelling alone or at night.
Localized Phenomena
Mount Ashendel: A small active volcano and one of few confirmed sources of Sopstone, a mineral capable of storing most types of arcane energy, and one of the reasons Ashmuth is so coffers run so deep. This presence of this arcane crystal suggests the volcanos origins may be magical or divine rather than natural.
Dead-eyed strangers: Blank-eyed amnesiac strangers have been found wandering into the town of Blackfoot from The Ashmire, a region of marshlands named for the ash that falls undisturbed as a result of the activity of the local volcano.
