One of the largest waterfront estates in Saltmarsh, Primewater Mansion originally belonged to the Weller family, whose influence peaked during Azure’s Tide before declining over the next century.
During Azure’s Tide, fearing invasion by the Sea Princes, the Wellers constructed a sealed network of tunnels and vaults hidden behind a door in the wine cellar. Their purpose: safeguard wealth and provide escape if the town fell.
After the war, the tunnels were sealed and forgotten. Records were lost.
Only Valblücher remembered.
An orphaned servant who entered the household over fifty years ago, she retained fragments of the estate’s secrets through servant lore. As a young woman, she discovered the hidden door herself and kept silent.
To her, the tunnels were inheritance—not rumor.
Gellan Primewater, a merchant from Seaton, married Maris Weller and gained control of the estate after her father’s death. Shortly after his own brother was killed by the Keoland Navy, Gellan relocated permanently to Saltmarsh with Maris and his niece, Gitta.
Bitter toward the Crown and ambitious for influence, Gellan discussed expanding profits through discreet trade with Linhart Weller. Valblücher overheard enough to judge him worthy.
She revealed the tunnels.
Gellan restored and reinforced the passages, adapting them for covert storage and transport. Above ground, he rebuilt the docks and established legitimate lumber and textile exports to Seaton.
Two merchant vessels now dock openly at the estate, providing profit—and cover.
Beneath the manor, contraband moves unseen.
Over twenty years, the operation expanded, elevating the Primewater–Weller household into one of Saltmarsh’s dominant power centers.
Tunnels: Direct ship-to-shore movement without using public docks.
Brenner “Old Bren” Holt: Controls dock access and tunnel operations. Nothing moves without his approval.
Captain Linhart Weller: Commands the fleet. His naval discipline ensures inspections pass cleanly.
Maris Primewater-Weller: Maintains social and political legitimacy. She avoids operational details and never enters the tunnels.
Together, Gellan and Maris balance risk and reputation—ambition and legitimacy.
To Saltmarsh, the mansion is home to a wealthy councilor and an impeccably managed household known for refinement and influence.
Almost no one suspects the wartime tunnels beneath it—or the thriving smuggling enterprise they conceal.
