QorKhor (ARGHANIAN DEATH WORM)

LORE

QorKhor, also known as the Arghanian Death Worm, is one of the most feared mosters in the whole of Vetus Mundi. The shear mention of the worms name stokes fear even amongst the most experienced hunters. Qorkhor is often described as “That Which Devours Below”. The greatest weakness of the Worm is moisture and cold. Its heated organs rely on the dry desert environment of Vidaria to survive. Water-aligned attacks deal double damage and interrupt many of its abilities.

Though terrifying, the worm is not truly predatory toward entire armies. Scholars believe it primarily hunts large herd beasts beneath the dunes using vibrations and heat signatures. Most attacks on settlements occur when mining operations or warbands disturb ancient nesting tunnels.

The worm is also highly territorial. Two adult worms will rarely tolerate each other’s presence, often causing violent subterranean tremors when their territories overlap.

It is unclear where exactly the worms have come from. Legend tells that during the times of Bataar Khan, a great sorcerer had used magic that turned much of the steppe into what is now known as the Sah’Qadir (The Powerful Sands) desert, where the worms reside. It is believed that they evolved around this time due to the magical elements that had seeped into the grounds, turning miniscule earthworms into gargantuan monsters.

Among the shifting crimson sands of the Vidarian Khanate lies an endless maze of ancient tunnels carved beneath the desert long before written history. Travelers speak of deep rumbling beneath their feet and entire caravans vanishing without a trace. These horrors are attributed to the Vidarian Death Worm — a colossal burrowing predator feared even by seasoned warlords.

The creatures are believed to hatch near underground volcanic vents where the earth itself bleeds heat and sulfur. Their bodies generate tremendous internal temperatures, allowing them to melt through stone and glass the very sand around them. Wherever a worm travels, the desert floor blackens into twisted veins of obsidian.

Vidarian tribes tell stories that the worms can sense fear through vibrations in the ground. Warriors crossing the dunes often travel barefoot to “speak softly to the sands,” believing heavy marching alone can attract a hungry worm from miles away.

Despite their monstrous reputation, some shamans revere the creatures as sacred guardians of the deep earth. Ancient murals depict worms encircling entire cities, protecting hidden treasures buried beneath the desert kingdoms of old. The nomads that dwell within the Sah'Qadir desert both respect and fear these mystical beasts.

Many have attempted to hunt a Vidarian Death Worm for glory. Few return.
