Kronen

From the day he could walk, Kronen was taught that duty comes before desire.

Born into a family of distinguished military retainers serving one of Caspia's oldest noble houses, Kronen's lineage possessed neither great wealth nor lofty titles. Instead, they earned respect through generations of unwavering service. Every generation produced soldiers, officers, and commanders whose loyalty helped shape the fortunes of their liege. Honor was measured not by glory, but by faithfully carrying out one's duty, regardless of the personal cost.

Kronen embraced that ideal completely.

Displaying exceptional talent for leadership from an early age, he was educated alongside the sons and daughters of the noble household. While others practiced swordsmanship, Kronen spent countless hours studying military history, logistics, diplomacy, and siegecraft. He learned that kingdoms were not won by strength alone, but by preparation, discipline, and the ability to inspire others.

No campaign fascinated him more than the fall of Drakkenheim.

For years he stood around war tables studying maps of the ruined capital. He memorized every gate, every bridge, every district, and every defensive wall. Together with his fellow officers, he debated how armies might reclaim the city, restore order, and reunite the fractured Kingdom of Westemär. Though he knew the city's layout better than many who once lived there, Kronen had never actually set foot within its walls.

To him, Drakkenheim remained an abstraction—a puzzle waiting to be solved.

The collapse of House von Kessel left the kingdom leaderless, and every neighboring power began weighing its own ambitions. Kronen's liege believes Westemär cannot remain divided forever. If peace is ever to return, someone must eventually claim the throne and rebuild what was lost.

Rather than commit soldiers blindly into the ruins, Kronen was entrusted with a mission of enormous importance.

He was dispatched alone to Drakkenheim to see the city with his own eyes.

His orders are clear:

  • Assess the factions competing for control of the city.

  • Determine whether Drakkenheim can truly be reclaimed.

  • Discover who might become allies—or enemies.

  • Prepare the way for his lord, should the time come to press a claim upon the Crown of Westemär.

Every decision Kronen makes reflects not only upon himself, but upon the noble house he represents. Diplomacy carries as much weight as steel, and rash action could spark conflicts that echo across kingdoms.

His journey began unexpectedly when, on the road to Emberwood Village, he discovered a towering drow barbarian lying unconscious among the corpses of twisted monsters she had slain alone. Though every instinct warned him to continue on, Kronen refused to abandon someone to die. He carried the stranger for miles toward safety, believing that even in a land consumed by ruin, honor demanded compassion.

It was there, just outside Emberwood Village, that his path crossed those of Elowynne, Rose, and Magnolia, beginning a journey none of them could have anticipated.

Kronen still believes his lord may be the best hope for Westemär.

But maps never showed the starving refugees.

Military reports never spoke of the Haze.

And strategy cannot measure the weight of a kingdom's suffering.

For the first time in his life, Kronen must determine not simply how a throne can be won, but who truly deserves to sit upon it.
