Mechanical Content Traits are the tags that tell you what a game element is in rules terms and how other mechanics interact with it. Unlike structural traits such as Skill, General, or Downtime, these traits usually describe body type, damage profile, material nature, delivery method, or special behavior in play. In Starfall Galaxy, these imported PF2e and SF2e traits do most of the heavy lifting for compatibility, while Starfall-specific tags are layered on only when the setting needs additional context.
Mechanical Content Traits are organized into a few major branches.
Creature Traits
These describe what a being fundamentally is: humanoid, construct, undead, animal, aberration, robot, and similar categories. They establish baseline interactions for healing, immunities, targeting, and thematic expectations.
Weapon and Equipment Traits
These govern how gear behaves in use: Tech, Analog, Agile, Versatile, Modular, Shove, and related tags. They determine not just flavor, but attack options, interactions with hacking or power loss, and how equipment performs under stress.
Damage, Energy, and Effect Traits
These include tags such as fire, cold, electricity, poison, mental, and other descriptors that tell you what type of harm or influence an effect delivers. They are essential for adjudicating resistances, weaknesses, immunities, and narrative presentation.
Special State and Behavior Traits
These cover unusual mechanical identities like incorporeal, swarm, mindless, or other traits that change how a creature or hazard functions at the table. These traits often interact strongly with the creature-type branch and deserve careful cross-linking in the index.
