Name: Lord Torren Greymont
Age: 61
Race: Human
Lord Torren Greymont governs the northern settlement of Norso, a hardened frontier town known throughout Llithe as the birthplace of the realm’s greatest monster hunters. While many noble houses command armies or manage trade, House Greymont holds a far more dangerous responsibility. They stand between civilization and the creatures that lurk beyond its borders. Through their leadership of the Slayers Guild, the Greymonts maintain a specialized network of hunters trained to confront threats that ordinary soldiers cannot withstand.
Torren himself is the embodiment of that tradition. Before he ever inherited leadership of Norso, he spent decades walking the wild edges of the realm as a Slayer. His armor bears deep claw scars from a frost wyvern encountered in the Coldlands, while the burn marks along his left arm are said to come from a volatile Mana beast slain near the Wisp decades ago. He rarely speaks about those battles directly, but his body tells the story clearly. Many who meet him for the first time remark that he carries himself less like a noble and more like a veteran ranger who simply never left the hunt.
Norso under Torren’s rule has become more than a town. It is a proving ground. Young hunters from across Llithe travel there to train under the Slayers Guild’s brutal regimen. Survival in Norso demands endurance and discipline. Trainees are taught to track beasts through snow and stone, identify signs of supernatural activity, and fight creatures that do not behave according to normal battlefield logic. Lessons include anatomy of monstrous species, Mana disruption patterns, and combat strategies designed for small hunting parties rather than large armies.
The Slayers Guild operates largely outside the traditional military command structure of Reach. While the King’s Army protects borders and cities, the Slayers hunt what lies beyond those defenses. When caravans vanish along remote trade routes or villages report unnatural sightings, it is often Greymont hunters who arrive first. Their independence allows them to act quickly without waiting for political approval, though they remain loyal to the crown when the kingdom itself is threatened.
Torren’s leadership style reflects the harsh environment his guild operates within. He values experience over lineage, and many of Norso’s most respected Slayers were once commoners who proved themselves through survival and skill. Within the guild, rank is earned through demonstrated ability rather than noble birth. This merit driven culture has made the Slayers Guild one of the most respected organizations in the realm.
Despite his age, Torren still participates in certain hunts when the threat is severe enough. His presence alone can steady younger hunters who know they are walking into something dangerous. Stories of his encounters circulate widely throughout Llithe, though Torren himself dismisses them as exaggerations.
In recent years, however, Torren’s attention has turned toward a far more troubling development. Reports from scouts and rangers near the Wisp describe creatures behaving in ways that defy natural patterns. Some beasts appear disoriented, others unnaturally aggressive, and a few have displayed deformities never recorded in Greymont bestiaries.
