Yellowsnaps, like fairy bells, are a favourite amongst local youths as well as cooks. These yellow flowers grow on the top of hills or mountains where they can receive the most light and heat. In the centre of the flower are many red seed casings, which, when exposed to a suitable amount of heat, create a crackling sound before exploding. Children like to throw the casings into fires and watch them jump and pop. And chefs enjoy the seeds' spicy flavour in cooking. 

Yellowsnaps are also much more flammable than other plants thanks to the unique sap coating their stalks. In the height of summer, when the heat is strongest, this sap erupts into flames. While the plants surrounding the flower are burnt away, the yellowsnap’s seeds are untouched and can grow another plant, sometimes even better than it was before.
