Vernatorlis comes from the Old Auresian words meaning Jewelled Mountain, owing to the vast mines that the city is perched upon. It is a city of vertical splendour and deep shadows. Built upon a massive cliff plateau, it is defined by the thunderous roar of two-layered waterfalls that divide the city into tiered districts. The air in the upper districts is crisp and carries the scent of mountain pine, while the lower Foreign Quarter is often shrouded in the mist and dampness of the River Tyius.
