Martial Boon:

Half-Äälar: 1 Ability Point, 1 Wis

Half-Äälyn: 1 Ability Point, 1 Con

Age. Half-Äälar mature at the same rate as humans, reaching adulthood in their late teens. However, they live much longer, often exceeding 180 to 200 years.

Alignment. Half-Äälar share the chaotic bent of their Äälar heritage. They value personal freedom and creative expression, demonstrating the best (and sometimes the worst) of both lineages.

Size. They match the height of their parents, ranging from 5 to over 6 feet tall. They are sturdier than Äälar but more slender than humans, weighing between 100 and 180 lbs.

In the words of Arthod the Great, a Half-Äälar is a creature to be doubted. To the world at large, they are "Half-Bloods," but to themselves, they are a unique blend of human inventiveness and Äälar refinement. They possess the curiosity of Man tempered by the heightened senses of the Stars.

I. Of Two Worlds

The Blurred Reflection Half-Äälar often struggle with an identity that shifts depending on who is looking at them. To a Human, they appear as elegant Äälar; to an Äälar, they appear as coarse Humans.

  • Unclaimed: Half-Äälar use either Human or Äälar naming conventions. As if to emphasise that they don’t really fit into either society, Half-Äälar raised among humans are often given Äälar names, and those raised among Äälar often take human names.

  • The Äälar Eye: Despite their human-like build, they almost always inherit the striking, soul-piercing eyes of their Äälar lineage, a trait that often betrays their heritage regardless of their dress or grooming.

II. Diplomats or Wanderers

A People Without a Throne With no sovereign lands of their own, Half-Äälar are the world's most enduring nomads. Their reception varies wildly across Poseia—from the welcoming havens of the Principality of Iudice to the lethal intolerance of Dölgyd.

  • The Outcast Life: In places like Scyltheld, they are often scorned as symbols of "tainted" bloodlines. In the deep halls of the Voräälyn, they are considered an affront to the mountain and are famously euthanised upon discovery.

  • The Haven of Misfits: Many find their way to the slums of Grenemor or the courts of Iudice, where they form communities with others who belong to "neither world."

III. Excellent Ambassadors

The Social Alchemists What many see as a curse, the Half-Äälar turn into a strength. Possessing Äälar grace without the cold aloofness, and human energy without the boorishness, they are the world's natural mediators.

  • The Paradox of Trust: While they make excellent go-betweens for third parties, they are ironically distrusted in negotiations specifically involving Humans and Äälar, as both sides suspect the Half-Äälar of secret bias toward the other.

  • The Relentless Wanderlust: Driven by a lifespan that outlasts their human friends but feels like a blink to their Äälar kin, they often become solitary trappers, hunters, or world-class swindlers, moving through civilisations before they have to watch their loved ones wither and die.
