The Dwarves that exist in the land of the Orin do so under very strict rules and subjugation.
They are not allowed to mix with humans, must stick to their parts of the cities, or tented cities outside the cities. all Dwarves must work in the mines of the Orin, each city has a mine and a dwarf population.
Dwarves must have special written leave to travel outside their cities and are treated with suspicion and disdain.
Dwarves are a short, bad tempered, dishonourable, broken race of once great people.
They are led by a Head Engineer in each location, with Elder Brannor the dwarven Magistrate based in Dathaway
Elder Brannor on the Dwarves:
Brannon’s voice is low, but it carries through the inn. He looks into his cup for a moment before speaking:
“You’ve seen them, I know. The dwarves of this city. Once we were stone — unyielding, unbroken. Now? Now we are mud. Drink-sodden, brawling, begging scraps from men who once envied our craft.
They call me traitor, because I will not wallow with them. But in truth, it is they who betrayed themselves. They see me and feel the sting of what they have lost, so they spit, and curse, and turn away.
Yet I will not. I cannot. I am the last voice of a people who were once proud. And if the gods are cruel enough to keep me alive in this shame, then I will spend what days I have left fighting to remind the dwarves of who we were… and who we still might be.”
