The Walls of Vitallia

Vitallia, in its very foundations, reflects the design of its root world, Pantheon. Though known to only a handful of mortals, Vitallia is likewise divided internally by Amber Walls. As a Prime World, it shares the innate characteristics of its nature: an Underworld and an Astral Plane that exist adjacent to it, forming a seat for both the living and the dead across all frequencies of existence, flesh, spirit, and thought.

These inner dimensions are separated by Amber Walls, much like the mini-worlds of Pantheon itself. The Sentinel shaped these layers to funnel lifeforce and complete a perfect cycle. The living would die, their spirit would pass through the Astral Plane, and from there descend into the Underworld. This is the process mortals have come to understand over the ages, but it is incomplete. The missing parts were removed by design, a deliberate act carried out by the Luvar.

Before the arrival of the Luvar, the cycle was whole. Once a spirit reached the Underworld, its soul would swim in the Rivers of Oblivion, within which flowed the Nusada, the Amber-Water of the Sentinel. The purpose of the Nusada was to recreate the broken body of the dead, cleanse it of memory, and, in time, carry it back to the realm of the living through the Underportal Lakes. This was an automated process of reincarnation, created to sustain the Fireborn Races favored by the Creator. That design was shattered early, in the aftermath of the Great War.

When the Sentinel receded into the earth, the Luvar seized control of the planet. Though they had been tasked with its protection by agreement with the Sentinel, their ambition proved impossible to contain. They appointed Sayeth as lord of death and sent him into the Underworld. There, he guided the souls of the dead across the river, but never through it, using a ferry that carried them instead to isolated islands where they would rest without ever touching the healing waters of the Nusada. Through this deception, the Luvar reshaped belief itself, promising altered afterlives and drawing countless lost souls into their pocket dimensions to feed their growing power.

As the ages passed, this knowledge faded into myth, a loss the Luvar ensured. The Underportal Lakes became impassable. Igrais and Sayeth carved warrens beneath the world and unleashed thousands of Amberborn beasts into those depths, sealing the passage. Mortals were thus barred from entering the Underworld in the flesh, and even those reborn were denied the chance to return on their own.
