History

The First Capital

Long ago the city was known as Larus and served as the first capital of Lothen. Lord Thorias Arkarian fought beside Vheod Whiteshield during the Great War and was chosen by the people as King of Humans, bearing the Golden Crown as his sigil. When Vheod slew the Lion and ascended to join the Gods, all Lothenians—including Thorias—knelt in submission. In reward for his loyalty, King Vheod permitted House Arkarian to keep the Golden Crown as their eternal emblem.

The Desolation

In a single night of terror, a Fire Giant descended from the mountains of Armorgrand and razed Larus to ashes. Some whispered the creature was Amar, a child of the Sentinel; sages insist it was merely one of the rare and terrible monsters born in those peaks. The city burned, hundreds perished, and many brave warriors were consumed by flame before the giant was finally brought low. From those blackened ruins the fortress-city of Liria was raised anew upon the brow of a canyon, its walls never lowered since.

The Red Lion

During the Red Lion Rebellion, Liria pledged men and steel to the Usurper. The choice carved a lasting rift between the city and the rest of Lothen. Even now, centuries later, other Lothenians speak of Liria as a place apart.

Location

Liria commands the westernmost reaches of central Lothen, gazing across the perilous Armorian Mountains.

Theme

Liria is a city of iron and vigilance. Its streets echo with the clang of forges and the measured tread of soldiers. Few travelers seek it willingly; merchants come only to supply the garrison, and recruits dread assignment to its walls, where Brutgors and worse prowl the borderlands. Yet beneath the martial surface, whispers persist of a shadowed circle—officers and aristocrats who wield influence far beyond their granted authority, their dealings left unchallenged by the crown.
