History of Enchantments

Magical enchantments upon weapons and items are common in Vitallia. Throughout history, enchanters have been able to imbue items with magic by carving Runes upon their surfaces. The type of each item determines the type of enchantment, and the quality of the item determines the quantity of runes that can safely be placed upon it.

Runecraft

Runecraft is the art of crafting runes that provide enchantments upon weapons or other items. These runes are carefully carved upon surfaces such as metal, wood, bone, stone, or even embroidered on cloth. However, carving runes too deeply into the surface often causes most items to break. Therefore, an item's quality directly affects its hosting capacity.

Legendary Items

Certain items, often referred to as "Artifacts", have been known to contain a large number of runes and enchantments. These items achieved legendary fame and were coveted by ambitious adventurers and leaders for their extraordinary powers.

Little is known about the origins of such artifacts, but their immense potency is attributed to a forgotten, almost impossible-to-learn art called Igaelia. This ancient technique allowed the creation of items capable of hosting 4, 5, or even up to 10 runes of powerful enchantments.

Notable examples include the legendary Blades of the Blade Guardians, which were forged by gods or other immensely powerful beings. The most famous craftsman to ever master this lost skill was Kargor.
