In certain grand scenarios, adventurers find themselves entangled in epic battles, such as cities under siege, armies clashing, or monstrous hordes raiding settlements. Beyond intricate war mechanics for large-scale conflicts between armies, it becomes beneficial to employ a straightforward approach to portray such epic encounters without sacrificing their essence and atmosphere. To achieve this, we aim to streamline mechanics and minimize dice rolls. Here are guidelines for doing so:
Eliminate grids or battle maps and emphasize narration. Allocate advantage and turns based on unfolding events. Render attacks and spell effects with a touch of ambiguity. Utilize a single contested roll per encounter to determine victory or defeat. Victory might signify the end of an encounter, while defeat could manifest as injury, unconsciousness, etc. Discard detailed action and movement rules, concentrating on one significant action per character.
Wounds & Death When a character suffers a defeat while in Cinematic Mode, roll for a Side effect according to the table.
Roll | Effect |
1 | Severe Injury: Unconsciousness. If action is not taken, it might lead to death. |
2-5 | Leg Wound: Immobilization or impaired movement |
6-9 | Head Wound: Dizziness, blurry vision and impaired perception |
10 | Scar: Visible wound without impact |
