The Vassal State of Igros

Overview

The state of Igros was founded by Lothenian immigrants who revolted against the kingdom and claimed their independence. Their greatest strength lies in their ships, and their freedom was earned through naval battles, sabotage, and relentless maritime pressure—forcing Lothen to compromise and turn Igros from a colony into a protectorate.

Campaigning in Igros

Igros is a land of fertile soil and great potential. If not for Lothen’s heavy influence, it might have risen into a powerful Human kingdom.

Despite Lothen’s presence, the streets of Igros remain relatively safe, but the forests are feared deeply. The Igrites are convinced that their woods are haunted by spirits, making them dangerous and avoided by most locals.

Igrites fear spiritual activity, categorizing spirits based on where they reside—forests, harbors, storages, castles, and more—believing these entities to be the kingdom’s greatest threat.

The People of Igros

Most Igrite men become seafarers or musicians, leaving the inland settlements predominantly populated by women.

Igrite women are taught from early childhood to craft fabrics, pottery, weapons, and possess a long-standing tradition of blacksmithing.
Igrite weapons are known for their fine detail and craftsmanship, attributed to their women’s skill.

Men take on the role of sea traders, sailing for extended periods and not returning until they have sold all their cargo.

Useful Lore

Igros frequently faces issues stemming from the Lion Mountains to the north.
Encounters with Lothenian, Dragorian, and Sartian soldiers are common, though rarely escalate to full-scale conflict.

However, piracy remains the greatest worldly threat to Igrites, as their cargo is their livelihood and most precious asset.

The Dangers of Igros

In Igros, dangers are believed to be invisible.

Igrites have centuries-old traditions of protective rituals designed to guard against spirits. Anyone traveling through Igros is expected to learn its lore and adopt its protective customs to remain safe.

Igrite Customs

  • A Protector is elected by the people and rules the country. These leaders typically maintain favorable relations with Lothen.

  • Igrite monarchs must pay 70% of their wealth as tribute to the kingdom of Lothen.

  • Stewards serve as local authority figures in cities outside the capital.

  • Women craft items of all kinds with exceptional skill; men sell them across the seas.

  • Dead bodies are burned to prevent spirits from inhabiting them. Children’s bodies must undergo special cleansing rituals first.

  • Only women become blacksmiths due to the fine craftsmanship required.

  • Only men become bards and musicians, as their travels allow them to collect stories for their songs.

  • Elder women often serve as spiritual protectors, safeguarding younger family members from harmful entities.
