Enis

Image

Overview

The city of Enis stands near the vast northern swamp, a place of unending hardship. Giant insects, disease, and poisonous vapors torment its people year-round. Control of the city is divided uneasily between criminals, aristocrats, and a weakened local lord. Fog clings to the streets, and the damp air carries the swamp’s rot. The wooden and stone buildings reflect the poverty and long decline of a city once known for healing and resilience.

History

Origins in War

Enis began as a refuge for wounded soldiers during the Great War. Healers tended to the injured here, laying the foundation for a long tradition of medicine that would shape the city’s identity for centuries.

The Great Hearth

Built during the war, the Great Hearth remains a renowned house of healing. Supported by patrons from across Lothen, it shelters and treats the poor and the sick. Its healers have learned to combat the unending diseases brought by the corrupted lands to the west, making the Hearth a center of medical mastery and endurance.

A Giant Shadow

Enis has long lived under the threat of Dead Gods Lane. Its most devastating trial came when Edunkas—a colossal spider and one of the Children of the Sentinel—awoke. The creature, half the size of the city itself, attacked Enis in a frenzy. Only the intervention of the Blade Guardians saved the city, forcing the monster back into slumber.

Fall from Grace

Years of disease, death, and despair caused large parts of the population to flee. Those who remained were often the desperate or the ruthless. With the weakness of the ruling house, crime flourished. Smugglers, mercenaries, and outlaws seized control of the streets, shaping Enis into a city where fear and influence outweigh law.

Location

Enis lies in northwestern Lothen, near Dead Gods Lane. The region is encircled by marshes, ancient ruins, and dark mountains.

Theme

Enis is a city marked by decay, crime, and survival. Crime lords dominate its streets, and the authority of its nobles carries little weight. Yet amid this bleakness stands the Great Hearth—widely regarded as the finest healing institution in the realm—bringing prestige and hope to an otherwise downtrodden land.

Districts

Flesh Lane

A discreet district catering to the private and often illicit desires of nobles and elites.

The West End

Home to the lower classes, who endure the harsh fumes of the swamp and the smoke from the Pyre where the dead are burned.

The Red Market

A bustling hub of trade, filled with diverse shops and merchants from across the realm.
