The State of Miasel

Image

The State of Miasel was founded during the Second Age with the birth of the Sarcanta, descendants of the first dragons. It is a closed, militaristic nation ruled by a species that functions as a Hive-Mind, isolated from the world and devoted entirely to mining gold and harvesting rare minerals to empower their dragon leaders and strengthen their armies.

Campaigning in Miasel

Miasel is a natural labyrinth:

  • A vast and remote island filled with dense jungles, deep mines, volcanic tunnels, and perilous terrain.

  • Controlled entirely by the Sarcanta, who oversee vast mining operations.

  • Slave settlements, populated by various captured species, sustain the mining workforce.

  • The climate varies drastically—scorching summers and bitter winters.

  • Dragon-related fauna and monstrous beings populate every corner of the wilderness.

A campaign in Miasel revolves around jungle survival, mine delving, dragon politics, rebellion, slavery, and treasure-hunting under constant threat.

The People of Miasel

The dominant population consists of the Sarcanta:

  • A draconic, hive-minded race whose thoughts and goals align toward serving their dragon sovereign.

  • They spend their lives gathering gold to strengthen their dragon king or queen, who hibernates in summer and awakens during winter.

  • Gold is central to their culture, as it fuels draconic power.

  • Former Shanah inhabitants mostly perished during the Second Age; only a few minority clans remain.

  • Foreigners, adventurers, and treasure hunters rarely survive: most are captured and enslaved, if not killed on sight.

Useful Lore

  • Miasel’s greatest challenges arise from internal revolts within the slave camps.

  • Masters known as Miasarim frequently suppress uprisings with brute force.

  • Treasure hunters flock to the island due to the legendary wealth of the dragons.

  • The influx of intruders creates constant tension and violent crackdowns.

  • Dragon legends and gold hoards make Miasel a magnet for adventurers and pirates.

The Dangers of Miasel

Miasel is one of the deadliest locations in Vitallia:

  • Poisonous and carnivorous plants are common.

  • The jungle hides countless monster warrens, many linked to draconic ancestry.

  • Deep mines contain ancient horrors, unstable caverns, and magical contamination.

  • Sarcanta patrols hunt intruders relentlessly.

  • Pirates, marauders, and renegade dragon-worshippers roam the wilderness, seeking gold.

Survival in Miasel requires exceptional caution and resourcefulness.

Miasarim Customs

  • Miasel is governed by an army of Sarcanta, functioning as a unified Hive-Mind.

  • Gold is mined and offered to the dragon sovereign, whose power grows with their hoard.

  • Parts of the Sarcantan culture and language derive from the ancient Shanah.

  • Any outsider entering Miasel is enslaved and forced to work in the mines.

  • A rare minority known as Dragonbound—non-Sarcanta agents—serve as emissaries to foreign kingdoms.
