Realm of Nightmares replaces the Shadowfell in this multiverse. Abilities that reference the Shadowfell will be re-flavored to match "The Nightmare"
Beyond the reach of light lies a domain shrouded in eternal darkness, haunted by restless spirits and reflections of forgotten horrors. The Nightmare, the shadowed reflection of Ignisar, where despair takes form and fear itself is alive. Where the Realm of Dreams is shaped by inspiration and imagination, the Nightmare is its counterpart. Created from fear, regret, and the subconscious horrors that lurk within. It is formed by the collective terrors of all who have ever known dread, a place where anxieties take shape and the worst possibilities are made real.
Unlike the Dream, which shifts and changes with fluidity, the Nightmare is akin to a prison. Each fear given form lingers, festering and solidifying over time, trapping those who fall into its grasp. It is an reflection of Ignisar, twisted and drained of warmth, where light is feeble, and shadows stretch long enough to swallow entire cities...
Nightmare Luminary thrive here, born from the deepest fears and those trapped between life and death. These beings linger in the very fabric of this forsaken place. They are drawn to the most tortured souls, feeding on their dread and maintaining their hold over the land, ensuring that the Nightmare’s terror never fades. Those who venture into the Nightmare may never return the same, if they return at all, for these realms offer no solace, no escape—only endless, suffocating isolation and terror.

The Major Nightmares
The land itself is fractured and broken, an amalgamation of the subconscious fears of all living things. Crumbling ruins, endless wastelands, and twisted landscapes stretch beyond the horizon, each place haunted by the echoes of those who have suffered before. But true horror lies in the different domains of the Nightmare. Where the most primal fears of existence have rooted themselves so deeply that they will never fade.
The Hollow Skull
Nightmare of Death, and what comes after.
A vast, barren graveyard where the dead do not rest. The Hollow Skull is a domain of endless tombs and broken bones, where the sky is a pale, sickly gray, and the air carries the scent of decay. No warmth reaches this place—only the cold certainty of what awaits beyond life.
Here, the spirits walk aimlessly, trapped in an unending cycle of their final moments. Some relive their deaths over and over again, gasping for breath that will never come. Others do not realize they are dead at all, endlessly searching for homes and loved ones that have long since turned to dust.
To stay in the Hollow Skull is to feel the slow pull of oblivion, the numbing certainty that life was only a brief flicker before an eternity of emptiness. The longer one lingers, the easier it is to forget the sound of their own heartbeat... Until it is too late.
The Ruined Castle
Nightmare of Disaster, and inescapable Ruin
A shattered fortress upon a crumbling cliff, forever on the verge of collapse. The Ruined Castle is the domain of catastrophe, where destruction is inevitable, and survival is a cruel illusion.
The walls groan and crack, towers lean precariously, and the ground beneath shifts with each passing moment. No matter where one runs, the castle will always be falling—crumbling stone by stone, dragging everything within it to destruction.
There is no villain to defeat. No redemption to be earned. No purpose behind the ruin. It is disaster without cause, calamity without meaning—only the slow, relentless crumbling of everything one has tried to build.
Even those who escape carry its weight. The Ruined Castle lingers in the mind, a creeping certainty that ruin is always just a breath away.

The Broken Gem
Nightmare of Failure, and never being enough.
A grand hall of fractured glass, where broken mirrors line endless corridors, reflecting countless distorted versions of those who enter. It is the nightmare of inadequacy, where ambition shatters and every step forward is met with broken eflections of failure.
The mirrors whisper with familiar voices. Mentors, rivals, loved ones all echoing disappointment. Some reflections show a version of oneself that was stronger, smarter, more successful. Others show a twisted, grotesque self mocking, laughing, or weeping with despair. No two mirrors reflect the same truth, yet none offer comfort.
The ground is littered with shards of glass, each one cutting deep with memories of past failures. Doors lead nowhere, staircases crumble, and the way out always seems just beyond reach.
In the end, the only truth The Broken Gem offers is this: you were never enough, and you never will be.
The Silent Masquerade
Nightmare of Isolation, and Loneliness
The dance never stops.
For those who enter, the Masquerade is inviting at first. An escape from the weight of the waking world. The music plays on an endless loop, hypnotic and soothing. It is place where no one asks who you are or what you’ve done. The mask finds its way into your hands, a perfect fit, a gentle promise: You do not have to be yourself anymore.
An opportunity to leave behind your name, your past, and your fears. But the longer you wear the mask, the harder it becomes to take it off. Names slip away. Faces blur. The memories before the dance grow distant, muffled beneath the music. And still, the dance continues. The guests twirl and step, each alone in a room full of strangers, longing for connection yet trapped in a rhythm that keeps them apart.
And when the loneliness finally becomes too much, when you wish for nothing more than to disappear into the music. the Masquerade will grant your wish. The mask will sink into your skin. The music will drown out your name and your memories.
And you will dance, alone. Forever.

Reflections in the Nightmare are twisted manifestations of memories, regrets, and unresolved fears. They are born from the subconscious, given form by the darkest moments of a mind's history. Unlike the Dream, where reflections are born of inspiration, these are the physical embodiment of torment and dread, reliving the worst moments of one’s existence. They are fleeting spaces shaped by the intensity of the fear that created them, and often impossible to escape. These places are exceedingly dangerous. If the mind believes it perished within them, the victim may never wake again.
