In 190 ATC, when the Iron Pass rivers kept tearing through the lowlands, drowning fields and fouling every well, Allura Hershkowitz ordered it bound instead of broken. Fenrir Wyrmslayer and Laeren of Fleetfoot agreed. You do not fight a mountain river. You teach it where to go.

The Southern Alluran Dam was finished in 199 A.T.C. The Iron Pass did not bring a steady flow. It came down in bursts, carrying cold meltwater, loose stone, and silt that fouled wells and flooded the lower shores. The dam was built to manage that, not to stop it.

Water backs up into the reservoir behind the dam, where the current slows and heavier debris settles to the bottom. From there it is released in a controlled flow through outlets near the base, moving into a series of channels designed in collaboration with the Harefolk of Fleetfoot. Deerfolk handled planning and structure, Wolffolk provided the labor and resources, Harefolk built and maintained the water systems, and Taufolk oversaw the surrounding lands to prevent long-term damage.

During heavy seasons, spillways open to release excess water safely and prevent pressure from building against the structure. This keeps the river downstream consistent, even when the mountains are not.

An arcane incantation cleans the flow before it is released downstream. It runs constantly through the structure, breaking down impurities and keeping the water usable for the settlements below. The details have been held by the Meadowthorne family since its first introduction, and they continue to oversee it. The settlements trust them with it. That trust has held for a long time.

Upstream of the dam, the slower water has become a stable fishing ground. What was once a dangerous stretch of river is now something the settlements can rely on. The inner design follows the older Northern Dam, which survived the Throne War. Before the war it was known as the Cerfmont Dam, built and controlled by the human Arnewynd families, and left without keepers when the war took them.

It was later renamed the Laeren Dam, in recognition of Laeren of Fleetfoot's role in the original collaboration. In 224, the same incantation was added to the Northern Dam to support Velvetglade and Fleetfoot.
