#016 Eidolons & Epistles

Moving forward, session notes for Cursebreakers have been limited to Key Information.

The Common Room — Naomi Alone - 6th of Rottings

  • After the disastrous combat lesson, Naomi walks ahead of the others to clear her head, entering the common room alone.

  • She sits on the couch with her elbows on her knees, trying to mentally push through the pain in her arms and think logically about what happened and how to recover.

  • The purple scars on her arms and glowing faintly beneath her clothing.

  • She hears Vita and Thalga's voices approaching from outside.

Vita and Thalga Enter the Common Room - 6th of Rottings

  • Vita, feeling guilty about hurting Naomi during the lesson, rushes over and sits beside her, apologizing and asking if she is okay.

  • Vita avoids looking directly at Naomi's face, and notices the scars glowing faintly through her clothing.

  • Thalga approaches from the other side and places a hand on Naomi's shoulder.

  • The touch causes Naomi to involuntarily flinch and jerk away — a physical defense response from her body.

  • Both Vita and Thalga clearly see the scars briefly illuminate on Naomi's arm as she pulls back.

  • Vita asks if they need to get a doctor. Naomi quietly replies that she doesn't think a doctor would help.

  • Vita suggests Naomi try her breathing and meditation exercises.

  • Thalga takes charge, gently pulling Vita away, telling Naomi to stay put, do her breathing, and that they will be right back with tea.

  • They leave to fetch tea and snacks from the cafeteria.

Naomi's Flashback — The Edge of Existence - 6th of Rottings

  • The moment Naomi stands up to head to her room, a purple flash appears in her vision, and a strand of her hair turns purple.

  • She is pulled into a memory that had previously been suppressed — the moment she arrived at the Edge of Existence.

  • She finds herself standing on floating rock formations with a dark, ominous eye visible in the far distance, and more eyes appearing around it, all looking directly at her.

  • Naomi has no weapons on her in this space.

  • An arrow is pressed against the back of her head from behind.

  • A feminine voice with a low growl says: "You have returned, traveler."

  • Naomi turns slowly and faces a lion folk woman wearing a hood, with dreads along the sides of her hair, holding a large bow aimed directly at Naomi's face.

  • The woman wears a heart-shaped necklace that glows gently — the only thing in the space that does not feel threatening.

  • There is a small campfire nearby with purple flames, and two blocks of rough wood arranged as seating. Naomi notices this person matches the description she had mentally filed of Vita's earlier visit to this place, and quickly describes Vita. The lionness confirms someone matching that description had visited before, though she never gave her name.

  • Naomi introduces herself as someone others call "the water-blessed," and gives her name as Naomi.

  • The woman introduces herself as Yssara Duskchaser.

  • Naomi asks what brought Yssara there. Yssara states they have that in common — she was also struck by magic.

  • Naomi ask "By what?"

  • Yssara answers: "By a blast of corrupted light pretending to be hope."

  • The flashback ends and Naomi snaps back to the present.

Naomi Returns to the Present — Rose Arrives - 6th of Rottings

  • As Naomi regains awareness, she loses her balance and crashes into the coffee table in front of her.

  • Rose walks in at exactly this moment, having used her detect magic sense before entering the room.

  • Rose notices the faint magical aura beneath Naomi's arms and the single visible strand of purple in her hair.

  • She helps Naomi up and asks what happened.

  • Naomi says she doesn't know how to explain it.

  • Rose instinctively reaches for Naomi's arm in a gesture of comfort.

  • The moment Rose makes contact, Naomi feels significant relief — the burning pain in her arm subsides noticeably, as if the heat is being drawn out.

  • Rose gently places her other hand on Naomi's other arm, and the effect doubles.

  • The water bracelet on Naomi's wrist briefly solidifies, as if wind and water are briefly working together.

  • Naomi closes her eyes and simply stands still, allowing herself a moment of rest from the constant pain.

Vita and Thalga Return with Tea - 6th of Rottings

  • Vita and Thalga return from the cafeteria with a tray of tea and various pastries — no chocolate cookies, as they had run out.

  • They find Rose and Naomi standing together, and Rose confirms she was able to soothe some of Naomi's pain.

  • Vita offers Naomi a cup of tea and a slice of cake directly, bringing it to her.

  • Naomi thanks them and says she still wants to meditate.

  • Vita pauses in the doorway and tells Naomi that she thinks she may be able to relate to what Naomi is going through, and offers to talk later.

  • Naomi acknowledges this but says not now.

  • Vita apologises again for what happened, Naomi says she knows it wasn't intentional.

  • The group briefly notes that Einar Giedensera also has purple in his hair, and wonders if it comes from the same source.

  • They agree that they should prioritise figuring out what is happening, avoid using dangerous abilities in the meantime, and look into it together.

  • The group considers that there may be books in the library, or that someone in the city may be able to help — though they are cautious about who they share information with.

  • They discuss the Covenant briefly — noting that Askdyrnir seems to be at the centre of things, and that they cannot yet speak to him directly.

  • The conversation is interrupted when someone knocks and opens the door.

Siddiq Arrives — Naomi is Collected - 6th of Rottings

  • A man appears in the doorway: light-skinned, with piercing green eyes, long ruffled hair pulled into a ponytail.

  • He introduces himself as Siddiq and states he has been sent by Professor Askdyrnir to check on Naomi.

  • He is brusque toward Vita when she questions his motives, calling her out on being the ones who inflicted Naomi's wounds in the first place.

  • Thalga attempts to get his name and affiliation. He confirms his name is Siddiq and that he is temporarily replacing Lorelai, who is currently absent.

  • Naomi agrees to go with him. The others reluctantly allow it, asking her to come back if anything feels wrong.

  • On the walk to the medical office, Naomi asks why Askdyrnir sent Siddiq specifically. He says he is there to see if he can help with her wounds, not that he is certain he can.

  • He declines to elaborate further until they reach the medical room.

Image

The Medical Examination with Siddiq

  • In the medical office, Naomi lies down and allows Siddiq to examine her.

  • Siddiq has noticeably elongated, sharp nails, resembling claws — described as more beast-like than dragon-like in nature — and significant amount of lower arm hair.

  • He traces along Naomi's scars slowly and precisely, despite stating he cannot see them.

  • When Naomi questions how he can trace them without seeing them, he says it is intuition.

  • Naomi senses there is more to this answer but chooses not to push it. She watches him trace every individual scar accurately.

  • He mentions he cannot simply explain everything out loud, hinting that there are reasons certain things are not said openly.

  • He tells Naomi that it is good that she keeps the scars covered, as others may also be able to sense them — even without seeing them. He links this to blood: what flows through the body, what comes out when cut. He lets her reason through the connection herself.

  • Siddiq goes to a cabinet and retrieves a golden necklace with a sun and two hands motif.

  • He explains this was given under the authority of Professor Askdyrnir, and instructs Naomi:

    • She must not mention it to anyone.

    • If she is ever searched, she must not be wearing it.

    • When she has recovered her strength, she must return it to Askdyrnir or to Siddiq.

  • Naomi puts on the necklace and focuses on it. It feels like a second heartbeat slowly synchronizing with hers. After attuning, the scars don't disappear but become visibly subdued — muted rather than vivid purple.

  • Naomi says she feels better, but different. Siddiq tells her to rest, continue wearing the necklace, and that once she has regained her strength she will know what to do.

  • Siddiq informs Naomi he will be taking over their combat lessons, as some of her friends have shown they cannot yet control their abilities. He says the focus will shift to more practical, discipline-based study instead of life-or-death situations.

  • Siddiq helps Naomi off the examination table and walks her back through the teachers' wing.

  • On the way out, he repeats that covering the scars is wise, as others can sense things even without seeing them. He leaves Naomi at Lorelai's office door, and closes the door. Naomi catches a quick glance inside — nothing unusual visible.

Image

Group Reconvenes — Discussing Siddiq

  • Naomi returns to the common room. The others ask how she is and what happened.

  • Naomi shares that Siddiq traced her scars without being able to see them, attributing it to intuition. She mentions his warning that others might be able to sense the scars, connected somehow to blood.

  • The group discusses Siddiq:

    • He confirmed he is substituting for Lorelai and will be taking over their lessons.

    • He was notably direct and dismissive but also composed and knowledgeable.

    • Rose notes that Siddiq and Lorelai share similar striking green eyes and black hair, suggesting a familial link — possibly a sibling or half-sibling? Maybe even a son?

    • Siddiq has beast-like claws, different from lion or dragon folk — possibly a half-Theran.

    • He carried himself with quiet authority, the group theorises he may be connected to The Covenant as well.

  • The group considers approaching Askdyrnir indirectly through Siddiq, as he might be more approachable than Askdyrnir directly.

  • Vita raises that she believes she may have accidentally sent Naomi to The Edge during the lesson — noting that when she overcharged her magic during the fight with the Subjurforged, she herself went to the Edge, and the scars appearing on Naomi after the event must be connected. The group agrees they need more information, and suggests the library as a starting point.

  • The group takes time to rest before heading to the library.

  • Naomi meditates alone in her room, while Rose spends time sitting quietly in the common room, touching the Sun card and trying to write a poem about it. Gilgamesh briefly communicates "I need more time, Priestess." — She's confused by the term Gilgamesh uses for her, but lets it rest for now. Vita feels notably revitalised — physically unaffected by the earlier events, though the rest of the group finds this unsettling.

  • Thalga crafts herbal remedy snacks in the meantime.

Library Research - 6th of Rottings

The group heads to the academy's old library together. Several other students are present. They each search for different subjects.

Thalga and Vita's Search — Edge / Realm / Necromancy

  • Thalga searches for terms like "Edge," "Dimension," and "Realm Split." Nothing relevant surfaces — only unrelated results about spell-control.

  • Vita searches for texts on necromancy and magical draining. She finds mostly theoretical writing about necrotic energies being the opposite of light, with some history on Concordia. The subject is not well covered in the public library unfortunately.

Naomi's Search — The Dusk Chaser Family

  • Naomi approaches the older lionfolk librarian, and asks about records on a specific person. She is directed to the history section on Cursebreaker families.

  • She finds a book on the Duskchaser family-line described as one of the first families to settle on the eastern side of Concordia, with a long-standing rivalry/competition with the Lightbringer family.

  • Searching through family trees, Naomi finds the name Yssara — the same name of the lionfolk she met at The Edge. The tree lists a marriage to someone named Kieran Armaldo, which is then crossed out — indicating a separation or divorce. Below Yssara's name is the name Feronis Duskchaser. Which is the name of the Wind-Blessed Stewards that was petrified.

  • Naomi then requests access to the newspaper archive downstairs to search. She is taken down to a room filled with boxes and ledgers of old issues of The Roaring Lion, Concordia's widespread newspaper.

    Image

The Newspaper Archive — Group Joins Naomi

  • Vita and Thalga notice Naomi leave with the librarian and head downstairs to join her.

  • They find Naomi surrounded by open boxes and loose papers, sitting in a focused, meditative state trying to connect relevant events.

Naomi Shares Findings

  • Naomi tells the group she has been researching the person she met at the Edge — Yssara Duskchaser.Vita immediately recognises the name as the same woman she encountered during her own visit to the Edge.

  • Naomi shares: Yssara was married to Kieran Armaldo, that marriage ended, and she has a son named Feronis. Vita connects this to the Feronis they found petrified in stone.

  • Thalga suggests narrowing the newspaper search to a two-to-three year window approximately 20 years ago, reasoning that if Yssara disappeared and was notable, it would have been reported. The group searches together.

Image

Rose's Discovery — The Shadow Cloak

  • While the others search the archive, Rose returns briefly to the main library to research dark Idols of Ignisar.

  • She finds reference to an idol called the Shadowcloak — not revered as evil, but as a force of guidance through darkness.

  • Followers of the Shadowcloak believe it is a concept born from the eternal struggle between The Spark and The Void, an embodiment of balance ensuring neither force achieves total dominance. A deeper, more obscure passage within the same text hints that the Shadow Cloak may not have been a concept at all — but a real, nameless mortal who travelled through underground tunnels. On one of the pages, Rose finds an etched image: a white dagger on a dark background — the same symbol as The Covenant!

  • Rose connects this: The Covenant may worship the Shadowcloak, and their goal appears to be maintaining the balance. When Rose notices that the others are gone, she also heads downstairs to share this with the group.

The Tressym Massacre Article — Thalga's Find

  • Thalga finds a newspaper article about an event called the Tressym Massacre — an elemental storm that devastated several small desert communities of Tressyms, otherwise known as flying cats, which unfortunately killed most of them. Some survivors were rescued and brought to the Howling Heart Reserve. The article credits Feronis Duskchaser as the Steward of Solaris who rescued many of the Tressyms and spearheaded their care.

Rose Walks in — The Wedding Article

  • Thalga finds a follow-up article, it covers the launch of the Tressym Rescue Project at the Howling Heart Reserve, with formal approval from Queen Agmi. The article also announces that Yssara Duskchaser, described as a Steward of Solaris, and retainer to the queen had recently entered a "shining union" (marriage) with Professor Askdyrnir of the Stargaze Plateau. The ceremony was held in Kall-Carie. The article notes the community felt the absence of Callista Gracia White — who was recovering from the birth of her twin daughters: Snow White and Rose White. Rose walks in just as this final line is read aloud.

Connecting the Dots — Group Discussion in the Archive

  • The group processes the revelations together:

    • Askdyrnir was married to Yssara. This reframes his behaviour, his harshness, his reaction to Rose, his familiarity with The Void. If Feronis is Yssara's son, then Askdyrnir would have been his stepfather. This matches Rose's earlier vision of a young, excited Feronis running toward a younger Askdyrnir, calling him dad.

    • Feronis's partner was Beaufort, another detailed confirmed from the vision Rose saw.

    • Yssara was a Steward of Solaris, but she was not present in the Steward's vision the group had previously witnessed — suggesting she went missing or was lost before or during that period. Vita wonders if Yssara is stuck at the Edge, maybe she did not go there willingly. Naomi adds that Yssara was struck by "a blast of corrupted light pretending to be hope" — but what could it mean?

  • The group considers the elemental storms mentioned in the Tressyms article. They theorise that someone or something channelling The Void may be causing these storms, which cause open rifts between realms. Their own elemental magic may serve to counterbalance this. They connect several void-related incidents.

    • The elemental storm that killed the Tressyms.

    • The petrification at the Howling Heart Reserve.

    • The tablet that the Sand Snakes tried to take.

    • The hordeling Liz's corruption.

    • The eye creatures seen at The Edge.

    • The sensation that Rose felt around the bandit connected to the dragon egg situation.

    • The incident that destroyed Rose's hometown of Kall-Karie.

  • They agree: This Void thing appears to be the connecting thread across all of it.

  • The group briefly discusses The Covenant again:

    • Their goal, maintaining the balance between The Spark and The Void — may not be inherently bad, but their methods may be questionable.

    • Kaedlin and Lorelai are magically bound and cannot freely share information, but can confirm things when asked. The group resolves to keep information within their own circle and approach Askdynir cautiously through Siddiq.

Testing the LegendKeeper — Snow's Voice

  • Before splitting up for the rest of the day, Rose offers to try out a new abilities from her LegendKeeper. The book can allow her to send short messages to people who have written their names inside it. Thalga, Vita and Naomi each write their names in the book, establishing the connection.

  • Rose decides to test the spell by sending Thalga a short message, she writes the words "elemental blessing" and targets Thalga. Thalga hears the words clearly — but not in Rose's voice. She recognises the voice immediately: it is Snow White, Rose's missing sister.

  • Thalga goes wide-eyed for a moment, and Rose goes pale when Thalga tells her.

  • Thalga asks who gave her that book. Rose says the book appeared beside her bed one morning, she assumed it was a gift from Harmonia, given it is called the Message of Harmonia.

  • Gilgamesh had previously asked Rose "who is in it?" — a question that now carries new weight.

The Group Splits for the Afternoon

  • The group agrees on a plan for the rest of the day:

    • Rose, Vita, and Thalga head into the city — Vita wants to check on her parents, and to visit the Nomad's Haven room. Naomi stays in the library to continue her research.

City Trip — Nomad's Haven

  • Rose, Vita, and Thalga walk to the Nomad's Haven where Ameena still has that assigned room. When they knock, there is no answer. The Haven's employee confirms a couple arrived the previous night and left early that morning, they have not been there since.

  • They concludes Vita's parents have likely gone to the royal palace to be closer to Tayleon.

The Sentinel Office — Encounter with Vulperian and Jonathan

  • The group decides to visit the nearby Sentinel Office to find Rose's father, Jonathan.

  • At the counter, Jonathan is in a long, rambling conversation with a flustered foxfolk, which the ladies recognize. It's Ambassador Marco Vulperian!

  • Marco reports that one of his galleries has been raided overnight.

    • Numerous artefacts were stolen.

    • All documents and plans for his upcoming desert expedition were also taken.

    • The assigned security guard was absent when the theft occurred.

    • Notably, the vault was opened without any sign of forced entry.

    • Marco has already sent his personal attendant Kyrion to investigate.

  • Jonathan tells Marco that The Sentinels will look into it, but struggles to get a word in as Marco keep rambling.

  • The ladies wonder Vita if the missing guard may have been coerced or taken rather than simply absent, wondering that if the guard was involved, he would be unlikely to talk freely.

  • Vita suggests that they could look into the matter, but Marco isn't sure if that's allowed based on the Academy's rules, but if the ladies would have been assigned a Lion's Share Community service, then he could always ask a favor from the Headmaster.

  • The girls say that they do have one of those assignments! Perhaps they could arrange something? Marco tells the group that Prince Ramiel had described them as some of the academy's capable new students, and that he would look into the possibility.

  • He offers them a card with the address of his mansion, with the possibility of a 1,000 gold reward each and access to some of the recovered artifacts if they are returned.

  • The group agrees to consider it, noting it would need to go through Prince Ramiel as their community service handler.

Jonathan's Concerns — Missing People

  • After Marco's departure, Johnathan does a sigh of relief.

  • Jonathan steps outside with the group for a short break.

  • He shares that earlier that morning, a young lady named Laura came by and reported that the two head caretakers of the Temple of the Undecided have gone missing.

  • He filed a report, but has not received any update, which is unusual for something of that nature. He also notes that other people connected to the temple — guards and clerics — have similarly vanished. He mentions he had planned to bring this information to the Stewards himself.

  • Vita accidentally mentions having heard the people from the temple were "detained" — a piece of information she should not have shared in that setting, which confuses Johnathan. She quickly reframes it as something she heard as a rumor. Jonathan accepts this loosely, noting it would make sense given the fire and the closure of the temple.

  • Rose convinces her father Jonathan to hand the list of missing people to them rather than pursuing it himself, suggesting they will pass it to the Stewards directly.

    • Her motivation: if the disappearances are connected to the group's activities and the cover-up they have observed, Jonathan pursuing it himself could put him in danger.

  • Jonathan agrees, hands over a scroll listing the missing individuals, and confirms he will focus on the Vulperian Gallery's Heist instead.

  • Rose quietly warns her father to be careful about who he speaks to regarding these events. She tells him she does not want to lose him too. He promises to be careful and to stay in contact.

  • The group joins Jonathan at a nearby restaurant for food before he returns to work.

  • Thalga orders something sour and enjoys it thoroughly — it clears her sinuses entirely.

  • Rose orders something sweet and finds it overwhelmingly so — she cannot finish it.

  • Vita orders sweet as well and has the same experience, scraping sauce off to make it manageable. After eating, Jonathan hugs Rose goodbye, and returns to the Sentinel Office.

Naomi's Research — Silver Dragon Folk Connection

  • Back in the library, Naomi searches for information about her own family — the Kawakami family — and their history in the Soarlands. She finds only brief, scattered mentions. The Kawashimo family is referenced, but little detail exists in the public library, the family were deliberately secretive about their knowledge.

  • She consults the librarian again, who recalls that the Kawashimo name is associated with legends of a large silver dragon called Watatsumi in the Soarlands.

  • The librarian suggests Naomi visit the Silver Bathhouse in the city, as it is dedicated to silver dragon folk and someone there may know more.

  • She wonders if she could contact Zilver, a silver dragonfolk individual who oversees training Sentinels at the Drake House. Naomi decides she has done enough for the day and heads back to the dorms to lie down and think.

Return to the Academy — Thalga's Letter

  • When Naomi returns to the common room ahead of the others, she finds a sealed letter waiting — addressed to Thalga Fireward.

  • She sets it aside for Thalga.

  • When Thalga returns with Rose and Vita, she opens the letter.

  • It is written on very fine paper, sealed with a blue ribbon and a stamp bearing the image of a deer. The letter is an invitation from Oyindamola for Thalga to come for tea — citing interest in Thalga's technical work, including the Shield of the Oasis.

  • The group notes this cautiously, aware that Oyindamola appeared in a vision being turned to stone, though they remind themselves that their visions do not always reflect current or definite reality. Thalga accepts the invitation in principle but does not rush to respond.

Evening Wind-Down — Final Conversations

  • The group gathers in the common room briefly before bed.

  • Naomi shares that she was unable to find what she was looking for in the library and believes she will need to visit the Silver Bathhouse to learn more about her family's history and its connection to her water-blessed abilities.

  • She mentions the prison's warden had previously sensed "ripples in the water" from her — similar to how Siddiq sensed her scars without seeing them. She wonders if other silver dragonfolk may have a particular sensitivity to this kind of energy.

  • She acknowledges that her first conversation with the warden did not go well, partly because she was guarded about trusting him, and he responded in kind.

  • The group notes that the warden mentioned the Kawakami family changed how history was written — and that there was once both great rivalry and great alliance between her family, and the silver dragonfolk. Rose quietly withdraws from the conversation, growing tired and emotionally drained from the day's revelations.

Bedtime

Rose

  • Rose goes to her room and holds the LegendKeeper close.

  • She prays to Harmonia for understanding about how Snow's voice came to be in the book.

  • Rose wishes she could crawl into the book, but hugs it quietly to herself as the group processes the moment. She attempts to write Snow's name directly into the book to initiate contact, but no response comes. The letters fade after a moment without reply.

  • She falls asleep holding the book.

Vita

  • Vita looks at the small laughing dice on her nightstand and quietly asks it why it keeps giggling, staring at it for a few seconds. It does not respond.

  • She reads for a while and then goes to sleep.

Naomi

  • Rather than sleeping immediately, Naomi sits with a piece of paper and writes down from memory everything she knows about her family and their teachings.

  • She also begins writing down what she can recall of the deeper meditation techniques she was taught, intending to work with this knowledge before seeking outside help.

  • She plans to share this with the group in the next session.
