This campaign uses an adjusted system which replaces XP for " Progression Points".

Progression Points are a type of XP that the DM rewards when a player has achieved an objective or goal. These objective could be anything related to that character. For example, a wizard could study a new scroll as part of their Progression, perhaps even earning that spell earlier than normal. A rogue could earn a progression point for breaking in a house, finding something of value and getting away completely undetected.

Acquiring spells and new abilities will be weaved into the narrative of this campaign. So it could be that a player can earn a progression point which also grants them a class ability or a feat earlier than they would normally learn it. (It could be possible for a level 4 character to gain a level 5 ability or a higher level spell earlier albeit in a weaker form. A player can suggest through roleplay, or may be asked to set a goal for themselves. When they achieve that goal they could earn a progression point.

Sometimes there will be an artificial level cap for a little while, in where the players have to overcome some challenge or find a teacher in order to continue acquiring Progression Points.

How does it work?

Between each level there are 6 progression points to be earned. Once a player has earned all 6 progression points, they are eligible to level-up. However, players can only level-up once all active party members have earned 6 progression points. This incentivizes the other players to assist with acquiring progression points.
