The Sunfire Expanse stretches endlessly under a merciless sun, a vast desert born from the ruins of what was once a lush savannah. Its rolling dunes and jagged rock formations rise from parched earth scarred by the meteor that struck Ignisar during the Moonstone Conflict of ~500 BTC

The desert’s surface is a shifting mosaic of sand seas, rocky plateaus, and scattered oases, each a fragile lifeline amid the arid wasteland. Blistering winds carve the dunes into ever-changing shapes, while heat waves ripple across the barren plains, making the Expanse as dangerous as it is mesmerizing.

Elemental Storms

The Sunfire Expanse is a land of extremes, where elemental storms rage across the barren wasteland with unpredictable fury. Firestorms sweep across the dunes, igniting pockets of flammable sand and leaving trails of molten rock. Torrential water storms strike without warning, carving deep gullies and flooding rare oases before vanishing under the scorching sun. Ice storms lash the northern plateaus, coating rocks in treacherous sheets of frost that glimmer under the harsh sunlight. Violent windstorms whip sand into blinding cyclones, reshaping the dunes overnight, while thunderous electrical storms crack the sky, striking the desert floor with sparks of raw energy.

Each storm carries both peril and a strange vitality, a reminder of the lingering magic left behind by the meteor that scarred the land centuries ago.

Desertification

Over the decades, the desertification of the Expanse has crept steadily outward, consuming the remnants of fertile savannah and leaving villages on the edge of an ever-expanding wasteland.

Shifting sands slowly swallow abandoned ruins, and the once-thriving riverbeds now run dry except during the rare elemental storms. Inhabitants who cling to the margins of the desert rely on resilient desert fauna, such as the tireless desert penguins, to navigate the treacherous terrain and survive the elemental onslaughts. Trade routes through the Expanse remain perilous but vital.

Despite its harshness, the land pulses with a residual magic, a quiet, lingering energy that seems to hum beneath the sun-baked soil.
