The Draconova Plains stretch out as a vast and untamed expanse of land, where the spirit of the Chromalith Dragonfolk thrives. These plains are home to seven mighty clans, each with its own history, traditions, and alliances.
While many of these clans consist exclusively of Dragonfolk, others have embraced a diversity of races, including humans, dwarves, hordelings, and even a few Pouchfoots, creating a patchwork of cultures, each with a unique role to play in the balance of the plains.
Diverse terrains define the region, from windswept cliffs and frigid tundras to crimson-hued valleys and stormy coasts. The dragonfolk clans, each tracing their lineage back to ancient dragons, have carved their place on these lands, adapting to its challenges while holding tightly to their traditions and territories.
The Crimson Valley
Situated near the southern borders of the Draconova Plains, the Crimson Valley is a land of stark beauty. Its name comes from the reddish hue of its soil, caused by iron-rich minerals eroded from the surrounding mountains. The valley’s central river carves through the land, its waters providing life to scattered flora. This region is home to the Bloodscales, red dragonfolk who live in smaller clans scattered over the valley. They are known for their tenacity and aggressive tendencies and they often have conflicts with the Hordelings that live here too.
Cliffs of Draketongue
On the northwestern shore of the plains, the Cliffs of Draketongue rise high above the crashing waves. These cliffs are home to the Aegisborn, who have built strongholds that merge seamlessly with the stone.
The capital of Draconova, Draketongue is a testament to their architectural brilliance. Constructed in collaboration with the rare Gold and Silver dragonfolk, the city balances function with grandeur. Towers etched with intricate carvings rise from the cliffs, while bridges span the chasms between peaks. The cliffs are marked by rugged, windblown terrain, providing a natural defense for its inhabitants. The Aegisborn, acting as lawmakers and protectors, maintain order across the surrounding lands, using Draketongue as their seat of power.
Beyond the Frosted Forest
To the east lies the Frosted Forest, a sprawling, snow-covered woodland that transitions into a frozen expanse at the edge of the known world. Here, the Nightfangs have established themselves. Beyond the forest, where the snow gives way to jagged ice formations and endless frost, the Nightfangs live in isolation. Their settlements are hidden within caves and icy ravines, blending into the landscape to avoid unwanted attention. The terrain here is brutal, with constant winds and subzero temperatures. The Nightfangs view themselves as guardians of the frontier, their origins tied to a shadowy dragon of old who thrived in the bitter cold.
Novashores
The coastline of the Draconova Plains, now called the Novashores, is a land of rugged beauty and constant conflict with the elements. Towering sea cliffs, rocky inlets, and crashing waves define this region. The Stormtides thrive here, drawing strength from their connection to the sea and their ancestral dragon, said to have been born of storms and salt. Their settlements are built into cliff faces and sheltered coves, protected from the worst of the coastal tempests. The Stormshores are dotted with hidden sea caves and jagged reefs, making navigation treacherous. Despite the challenges, the Stormtides dominate the coastal waters, relying on fishing, shipbuilding, and trade.
Neverfrost Lake
At the heart of the northern plains lies Neverfrost Lake, a massive frozen expanse surrounded by icy peaks. The Glacials make their home here, their settlements carved directly into the surrounding glaciers and mountains. The lake itself, perpetually frozen except for a brief thaw each year, serves as both a natural barrier and a source of conflict. The mountain dwarves of Mount Faldihr often contest the land around the lake, seeking its mineral-rich deposits, which leads to frequent skirmishes. The Glacials revere their icy homeland, claiming descent from a frost dragon who once ruled the frozen north. The terrain is both beautiful and deadly, with hidden crevasses and sudden avalanches posing constant danger.
The Clans and Their Origins
The clans of the Draconova Plains each claim lineage from mighty dragons, their ancestral ties shaping their culture, traditions, and roles within the region.
Bloodscales (Red Dragonfolk): Descendants of a flame-hearted dragons, the Bloodscales are known for their hot temper and ambition. Their fiery nature reflects the unforgiving terrain of the Crimson Valley.
Aegisborn (Copper/Bronze/Brass Dragonfolk): Tracing their heritage to metallic dragons of justice, the Aegisborn embody law and order, building fortified cities like Draketongue on the Cliffs of Draketongue.
Nightfangs (Black Dragonfolk): Born from a black dragons, the Nightfangs are reclusive and secretive, thriving in the cold, desolate lands beyond the Frosted Forest.
Stormtides (Blue Dragonfolk): With the spirit of a blue dragons, the Stormtides command the seas and skies, their coastal domain reflecting the raw power of their lineage.
Glacials (White Dragonfolk): Hailing from a White dragon’s lineage, the Glacials endure the harsh conditions around Neverfrost Lake, embodying strength and resilience.
Greens (Green Dragonfolk): Said to be the offspring of an green dragons, the Greens are artisans, artists and wanderers, appearing sporadically across the plains without a fixed homeland.
Sunspires and Moonscales (Gold/Silver Dragonfolk): Rare and almost mythical, these dragonfolk are not a true clan but revered as wise leaders or solitary guardians. Their connection to their draconic ancestors is a mark of awe across all clans.
