Despite their very humanoid appearance, cyclopes belong to a completely different family, with their closest relatives being Evil-Eyes, with whom they share such traits as:

• Their signature single "eye"

• The unique so-called spheromorphic fetal stage which the Cyclopes pass in their prenatal development, and in which the Evil-Eye stays in during its whole life cycle

• The pelvic structure. Although the Evil-Eye, as was previously mentioned, stays in its spheromorphic stage and therefore, doesn't have a pelvis (and many bones in general), it does have a big central bone which serves as a carcass for muscle attachment. Research shows that the Evil-Eye's central bone and the Cyclops's pelvic bone have developed from the same structure of their common ancestor.

Meanwhile, the resemblance with some humanoid species is a result of no more than convergent evolution, as both cyclops and humanoid species have occupied a similar ecological niche at a certain point of their development while being isolated from each other at that point, and thus evolving independently without any rivalry within the niche. The resemblance is truly uncanny, which is why some researchers believe that there was a certain period in cyclopes' history when they cross-bred with different species, such as orcs or trolls. This has inflicted discord in the scientific community and also gave birth to quite a few conspiracy theories, as the possibility of cross-breeding is typically close to zero between such unrelated species, which is why a hypothesis appeared about an artificial cross-breeding performed by some other sentient race out of political interest. However, there still has been no evidence of any cross-breeding whatsoever, as the extreme aggressiveness of these species makes it extremely hard to collect any data about them, which is why the cross-breeding hypothesis remains just a speculation.

The so-called "eye" serves the similar purpose as our eyes do, however, is not an eye at all. While an eye is a light-receiving organ, the cyclops's "eye" receives the mana reflections and emanations. It has developed from a mana-processing organ, which had double purpose in the Cyclops's and Evil-Eye's common ancestor -- perception and offense. While the Evil-Eye has perfected its offensive functions during evolution, the perceptive one suffered drastically. Cyclopes's development went the opposite way -- while completely losing the offensive abilities with their "eye", they have grown a much more complex version of their ancestor's organ, which not only allows them to perceive the surroundings better, but also process the information at once, without having to transfer it to the brain, making their reflexes unexpectedly keen, which became a perfect compensation for their natural slowness and clumsiness due to huge mass. However, this feature came with a sad downgrade -- their heightened impulsiveness, which made it completely impossible for them to build a complex culture and evolve beyond being simple, semi-intelligent, aggressive, solitary giants.
