Among the jagged peaks scarred by the Shattering, the Sunless Citadel was once a grand temple where the first Dragon-worshipers gathered. Its spires once pierced the clouds, their bells ringing like thunder across the valleys below. Here, cultists sang hymns to ancient wyrms, believing dragons to be living echoes of the Titans’ power.
When the Light Bridge was broken and the world split, the mountains themselves trembled. The temple’s foundations cracked, and the earth opened beneath it. Entire wings of the complex plummeted into a deep chasm, leaving the ruins half-buried and half-exposed on a precarious cliffside.
A dragon cult that valued privacy and defense built the Serpent Citadel on the surface long ago. All record of the cult’s name has vanished, though various sources believe that it was associated with the dragon Ashardalon. The cataclysm that killed the cult members sank the fortress at the same time. Because of residual enchantments, much of the structure survived its descent into the earth.
