Sea God was sent to live in the sea to help care for it with the water spirits, and the Moon God was sent to live in the sky to help look after those who roamed the land with the other spirits, and to help humanity.

It is said that after the Sea God awoke from their years-long slumber, they became enraged because of the ungratefulness that mortals showed for every gift given to them by the sea, and instead worshipped only the Moon God in gratitude. The Sea God desired to punish all and to incorporate all terrestrial life to his domains. They ordered the waters to flood the valleys and hills, and to bring all its inhabitants to the bottom of the sea.

Humans invoked the help of the Moon God, untouched in the open sky and who saw that both humans and animals were desperate. They helped the people and the animals to escape by raising the land and taking them to the hills; and they transformed those who were trapped by the waters into birds, so they could escape by flying; those who were drowning into fish and marine mammals, and those who had already drowned into mermen and mermaids. But as the sea continued to rise, the Moon God had to order the hills to release themselves from the surface on the earth and float upon the waters.

Angry, the Sea God began to fight against the Moon God in a titanic battle that lasted a long time until finally both were tired. But so evenly matched, the Sea God still stirs with a temper that sometimes rises to the surface, while the Moon God manages to control the ebb and flow for the most part.
