Shrine of the Wandering Step

Shrine of the Wandering Step

Deity: Lord Wundreld, the Wayfarer
Location: At the intersection of two old trade routes in the Wyrmhollow Wood—a weathered crossroads between east-west and north-south trails.

Description:
At the heart of this quiet crossroads stands a humble shrine to Lord Wundreld, god of travelers and the winding road. The shrine is marked by a cairn of stacked river stones, weathered by years of wind and rain but carefully maintained by passing pilgrims. At its peak rests a wooden carving of a winged boot—the symbol of Lord Wundreld—smoothed nearly featureless by the touch of time and countless hands.

Around the base of the cairn lie simple offerings left by travelers: faded coins, knotted strips of cloth, hand-carved trinkets, and other tokens of the road. Despite its simplicity, the place holds an air of quiet reverence. A faint breeze often stirs at the crossroads, carrying the scent of distant rain and the feeling that something unseen watches kindly from afar.

Those who leave offerings sometimes speak of hearing a whisper in the wind—words of encouragement, guidance, or comfort. One such account tells of a kobold named Zax, who left a charm of cloth and coin at the shrine and heard a fleeting voice say: "Even the smallest feet find the longest paths."

Customs and Beliefs:

  • Pilgrims traditionally leave a token of their journey when passing through.

  • Travelers whisper prayers or blessings, especially before long or uncertain treks.

  • Some believe the shrine offers protection from misdirection or foul weather for those who pay proper respect.
