🐉 Westwatch

Type:
Ruined Defensive Tower on the western edge of Timberfall Hollow

Location:
Built atop the northern cliff west of town, overlooking the rough woods and the distant edge of Wyrmhollow Wood.

📜 Overview:

Once a proud twin to Eastwatch, Westwatch now stands in ruins — a broken sentinel watching over Timberfall Hollow’s western flank. Its crumbling stone walls and shattered battlements loom over the town’s western fields, with the twisted wreckage of its ballista still visible among the rubble.

Though largely collapsed, parts of the tower’s lower levels remain intact, and some townsfolk still climb its ruin for a better view of the surrounding woods. Westwatch is a constant, grim reminder of the price Timberfall Hollow once paid to survive.

Atop the rocky cliffs west of Timberfall Hollow, the ruins of Westwatch rise like the bones of a fallen giant. Cracked stone walls jut skyward at crooked angles, and the twisted remains of a great ballista lie half-buried beneath moss and broken timbers. A faint scorch still mars the stones, and the air here feels heavier, as if the ruin itself remembers the fire that once consumed it. Beyond the shattered tower, the forest stretches out in endless, brooding silence.

📚 Lore:

Origin:
Westwatch was built alongside Eastwatch to guard Timberfall Hollow’s approaches — the eastern road and the western cliffs alike. From its high perch, Westwatch kept watch over the rougher trails leading toward Wyrmhollow Wood.

The Fall of Westwatch:
Fifty years ago, during the event now called the Ashfall, a young but vicious dragon — a rogue beast without name or allegiance — descended from the western ranges.
Westwatch was the first to sound the alarm. The garrison turned the ballista skyward, and against all odds, struck the creature a mortal blow. The dragon, wounded and enraged, unleashed a final barrage of flame and fury upon the tower before collapsing into the forest beyond. Though the beast was slain, Westwatch was destroyed, its defenders perishing alongside it. The ruins were never rebuilt — left instead as a monument to their sacrifice.

Current Status:
Westwatch remains a ruin, but the Ballista is still functional — occasionally fired during festivals, drills, or rare ceremonies to honor the town's defenders.
Visitors and hunters often tread carefully near the ruins, some out of respect, others out of lingering superstition about the dragon’s curse.

Some say the dragon’s bones still lie deep within the woods, untouched and dangerous even in death.
