Summary

House Castor have always been what you could call underdogs. Formerly a close ally of House Gilvannin, occupying the peninsula to their east, they never had much in the way of wealth or prestige, but were content with what little land they had. That all changed after the Ascension. For reasons known only to the highest-ranking members of each house, a few centuries after the seas turned sour and the gods abandoned the earth, House Gilvannin staged a massive attack on the Castors.

Driven all the way back and with little recourse left to them, House Castor mustered their remaining ships and headed south to the barren wastes of the Cleft of Black Sun, known to be inhabited by all manner of foul beasts from the south pole. In a stand-off for the ages that lasted nearly a century, the Castors were able to drive the monsters back beyond the Cleftwall, with the help of Goliath clans from the mountains and frost giants from the west of the continent.

Now, centuries later, the Cleft of Castor still survives. Constant vigilance on the Cleftwall is required, but their alliance with the mountain clans remains strong. However, around the time of the Downfall, a horrific magical incident occurred, wiping out the frost giants and turning their ancestral home into an unlivable wasteland, where magical meteors constantly rain from the sky.

Though their betrayal was over a thousand years ago, residents of the Cleft and especially members of House Castor still remember what the Gilvannins did to them. However, given the frigid and barren state of their home, the Castors must accept any and all assistance they're offered.

In recent years, they've happily joined with the Algova Satrapy and managed to take some livable land for themselves in the form of New Anchor Isle. Perhaps the coming days will be a new dawn for the Cleft...
