Summary

A cold desert of pitch-black rocks and sand, The Algova Satrapy is one of the oldest formal nations in the Southlands, predated only by their neighbors to the west in the Gilvannin Provinces. Over the centuries since the Ascension, their influence has steadily waned as new formal governments sprang up around them in the name of self-preservation.

Still, the Satrapy remains the fiercest and most militarily capable nation in the area, and their leaders House Algova are as ambitious and scheming as ever. When the New Church made its way south, they were early adopters, seeing the value in divine magic. As such, they were able to claw their way back into prominence as the religious capital of the Southlands, with many high-ranking officials in House Algova taking up the mantle of the Powers That Be.

Shortly after the Downfall, disaster struck the Satrapy - its capital city, Ptalis, was suddenly swallowed up by a chasm. Tens of thousands perished in an instant, and to this day no one is certain what caused it. The chasm's depths have yet to be sufficiently explored, and the remains of the outskirts of the city have been colloquially re-christened Algova's Folly. The chasm continues to slowly expand every day.

The new capital was formed on Lifeblood Isle, near Darkharbor where the Satrapy's massive fleet of battleships is constructed. They use these ships to patrol the Violent Sea as they have for the last thousand years, providing safety and a chance to strike against raiders from the north. In the interest of regaining national relevance, House Algova has allied with the Castors of the Cleft and the Staffords of the Shattered Scythe, providing them vessels of their own.

Some are concerned about this new cabal of naval domination, especially their temperamental enemies in the Provinces...
