Summary

The Gilvannin family are the oldest and proudest in all of the Southlands, an ancient clan of elves with history predating the Ascension. In their oldest days, they were building magnificent castles and cultivating beautiful fields of flowers while other nations were only getting started.

Though House Gilvannin hasn't changed much, the times certainly have. After the Ascension their historical homes fell to ruin thanks to the treacherous monsters from the seas and lakes damaging their land. The ancient castles and mausoleums became condemned, haunted wastes that only the bravest dare to tread through. Relic City remains the only well-populated settlement in that region, and its libraries and museums are rumored to be just as haunted by the past.

Meanwhile, their former neighbors to the east, House Castor, were driven out in a bloody war and blamed for the corruption of their proud monuments -- the truth of this is regarded tenuously. A few centuries later, House Algova struck a similar blow, claiming the former Castor lands back from House Gilvannin. This resulted in a horrendous, centuries-long conflict at the Barrier Sands, which to this day remain stained crimson and filled with the unclaimed dead.

After centuries marred by such bloody conflict, House Gilvannin took it upon themselves to be the voice of reason, opening up their enormous temple on Halcyon Isle to the public and offering to convert it into an academy for any and all leaders of other nations to send students and staff to unite future generations with stronger bonds.

House Gilvannin insists their motives in founding the Halcyon Academy were purely altruistic, but many are skeptical. Still, the Academy has proven a success, and one that the Gilvannins are more than happy to take credit for.
