Recap session 4

As the group begins settling down for the night, Sir Pip approaches Lirithyn to examine his bracelet. Lirithyn, startled awake, hesitates but ultimately allows Sir Pip to inspect the bracelet more closely.

Their conversation wakes the others. Brynn, Flint, and Fang all notice Lirithyn’s bracelet, though Lirithyn discreetly hides the part of his arm where the bracelet has caused a small affliction. However, Fang, still in his ghostly form, silently creeps behind Lirithyn and manages to get a closer look before Lirithyn notices his presence.

Afterward, the party tries to return to sleep, but Sir Pip and Lirithyn step outside to talk. Brynn quietly tries to listen in. Lirithyn opens up about the bracelet, but Sir Pip remains adamant about discovering its true power, explaining that he caught a familiar scent on it. He insists that the bracelet may be tied to his mission to save the world from Giant Acorn. Despite some back-and-forth argument, the two eventually return to their tent and fall asleep.

While the party sleeps, Fang enters a vivid dream. He finds himself in a beautiful room adorned with posters of a copper Dragonborn. Looking into a mirror, he sees that his reflection matches the Dragonborn in the posters. Calling out for his brother Flint, he suddenly realizes he no longer feels their familiar connection.

A Dragonborn knocks on his door and tells him to come along. Confused but compliant, Fang steps into the hallway. The dream suddenly shifts. He is now in an arena, inhabiting the body of the Dragonborn named Keal’varn, about to participate in the Trial of Strength. The final trial, the sixth of its kind, will determine the next ruler of the Dradeorin Dynasty. Fang, as Keal’varn, faces off against two other Dragonborn, Vealrix and Selesth, and a kobold named Grikkle.

As the battle begins, Keal’varn is overcome with rage and a growing desperation to win. Grikkle is the first to fall, struck down by Fang’s own hand. Keal’varn cruelly declares that there is no place for the weak, suggesting that kobolds are worthless. His words draw boos from the crowd. After Selesth falls, the final clash begins between Keal’varn and Vealrix.

The kobolds in the audience grow restless. Everything depends on who wins. Two bold kobolds leap into the arena to attack Keal’varn. Despite the chaos, the reigning queen does not intervene. When Vealrix eventually falls, Keal’varn believes he has won. But the queen refuses to end the fight, stating there are still others in the arena.

Keal’varn turns on the remaining kobolds, defeating them as well, but his chest begins to ache with growing intensity. When the queen finally descends to crown him, the pain becomes unbearable. Keal’varn drops to his knees, then to the ground, and dies.

Yet the dream continues.

Fang awakens again, now standing in a long line of ghostly spirits. Two massive beings at the front of the line take something from each spirit, then guide them toward either a brilliant, radiant light or a darker, more sinister one. Fang’s soul is gripped with fear as he watches the Memory Eaters carry out their work. Unlike him, the other spirits seem unaffected.

Panicked, Fang tries to escape and bumps into the spirit behind him. Upon contact, a flash of that spirit’s past life rushes into Fang’s mind. He sees a female Aarakocra studying in a library. As he tries to jump from the spectral bridge they stand on, Fang realizes the spirit is now stuck to him, clinging to his back.

The towering beings seize Fang and the other soul, extract their memories, and send them into the bright light.

Fang jolts awake from the dream. Still reeling, he shares a mental conversation with Flint. Both are shocked, struggling to process the vision. In this moment, they realize they aren’t just twin brothers. They are Soulbound.

Brynn, meanwhile, experiences a very different dream. She returns to her village, surrounded by music, familiar faces, and joyful memories of family and friends. But as she floats through these scenes, something strange catches her attention: a metal door inscribed with indecipherable runes, completely out of place.

As she tries to focus on the door, a demonic voice creeps into her mind. The door fades away, replaced by a window through which dark red-tinged smoke seeps into the room. A melody begins to play in her mind, but it’s eerie, distorted, playing in reverse.

Fleeing to the garden, Brynn sees the metal door again, this time wide open. Tendrils and smoke slither out from within. She runs to her childhood room, but when she enters, she finds only void. There are no walls, no floor, just empty nothingness in all directions. Trying to turn back, she finds herself frozen in place as the smoke surrounds her. Then it stops, forming a small clear circle around her.

Tendrils inch closer again, and the voice returns, urging her to embrace the chaos within. Then Brynn wakes up.

Restless, she decides to walk around the camp. She’s met by Azura, who asks if she had a bad dream. Brynn nods and listens as Azura shares a strange dream about a unicorn named Spotty and confesses her homesickness for her parents.

After Azura returns to bed, Brynn wanders a little further. Suddenly, her Wild Magic surges. Overwhelmed with irrational fear, she panics at the sight of a small, beautiful bird perched on a nearby tree branch and runs back to the tent.

Finally, the entire party settles back into sleep once more.
