Recap session 9

Aftermath of Azura’s Ritual

  • The group wakes up on the beach after being part of Azura’s ritual. Azura is crying, and Myriany is unresponsive.

  • Myriany collapses as the group tries to wake her.

  • Lirithyn senses tremors in the ground and alerts Fang. Together, they carry Azura and Myriany back to camp.

  • Brynn takes Azura to her tent and consoles her.

  • Lirithyn realizes the tremors seem to follow Myriany.

  • Myriany is warm to the touch, but not feverish.

  • The group notices that time appeared to stand still during the ritual.

  • Attempts to cool or wake Myriany fail.

  • Myriany stops breathing entirely. Flint attempts resuscitation while Fang pours a potion into her mouth, causing gills to form on her neck.

Myriany’s Dream / Vision

  • Myriany relives a recurring dream, but this time, it is different.

  • As her mother lifts her from a cradle, the cave reacts as if alive.

  • Using Detect Magic, Myriany sees the crystals radiate powerful, intelligent magic of unknown school, reflecting like a rainbow.

  • The dream shifts to potion-making with her mother; crystals begin forming behind her and slowly creep closer, unnoticed by her mother.

  • The dream shifts again to the garden. When Myriany touches two vials, the glass melts and spills.

  • She uses Produce Flame to reshape the melted glass into crystal. Her father tends a crystalline garden instead of vegetables.

  • The dream shifts to a field near Yddelia with Ember. Instead of the Archangel of Hope, massive crystals crash down. Ember teleports them away just in time.

  • A crystal shard strikes Myriany’s cheek, and manifests physically in the real world, seen by Lirithyn, Flint, and Fang.

  • Myriany flees to a cabin; upon entering, it disappears and the crystal barrage stops.

A voice speaks to her:

  • “Daughter of bloom and ember. You are not of flesh alone.”

  • “They took you from the forge.”

  • “They gave you not enough time.”

  • “Awaken… and remember, my daughter.”

  • “Find a statue of one of the gods here on Thal'Azrith, and pray to it.”

The Crystal Awakening

  • A massive 12-foot crystal erupts from the ground, lifting Myriany’s body.

  • She awakens, lying in a comfortable indent atop the crystal, with Flint clinging to it.

  • The crystal pulses softly when she touches it.

  • The group discusses its strange structure and possible purpose.

  • Magister Darcy and a bearfolk magister arrive, equally confused, along with other prisoners.

  • Fang and Lirithyn attempt to break the crystal but fail, no damage can be made.

  • Darcy orders the group moved to a new tent, suggesting this may be related to the island’s curse.

The Message & Investigation

  • Myriany shares the message from her dream about finding and praying at a god’s statue on Thal’Azrith.

  • Flint and Myriany discuss investigating the island’s history further.

  • From atop the crystal, Myriany spots a speck of blood near a tent.

  • During dinner, Jaylienne appears extremely nervous and retreats to her tent. A nearby magister also leaves their post.

  • Myriany tries to speak with Jaylienne, but she dismisses her concerns.

  • The group investigates the blood-marked tent.

The Ritual Tent

  • Upon entering, they are hit with the smell of blood and death.

  • Inside are four dead men arranged in a ritual circle, with cuts on their arms, and a mysterious book.

  • Myriany detects no magic from the ritual, the circle, or the book.

  • Lirithyn retrieves the book titled: “THE TRUE TRUTH OF SOURCE AND THE GODLY VOID.”

  • Carmen arrives and reads the clean portions of the book.

  • The group concludes the author was likely an extremist.

  • The text references a vague but important ritual for “Grand Intervention.”

  • They consider asking Ishmara for insight into the ritual.

  • The group discusses how to dispose of the bodies and clean the scene.

The Missing Cultist

  • Carmen notes there should be five cultists: Skimpy, Ba’tengo, Abraham, Maxwell, and Davidson, who is missing.

  • She explains the group had been working on a boat and later searching for a cave.

  • Carmen suspects Davidson found the cave, which may explain his disappearance.

  • She leaves to prepare graves on the beach.

  • The group covers the tent and returns to plan how to move the bodies unnoticed.

  • Flint struggles emotionally at the mention of a cave.

  • They decide to move the bodies at night and bury them with Carmen.

  • They consider informing Brynn, but doubt her ability to keep it secret.

  • Before burial, they choose to say a few words.

Fang says:

  • “May Rhadamanthys judge them on their truths and ideals to their right place.”
