Wintertide is an annual festival celebrating the New Year. Among the Mistwood Lakes citizenry, participants exchange gifts and reflect upon the previous year while looking forward to the new year.
Each year, city-wide celebrations are held by the Arcanists of the Arcanus Academia with Each college participating. This festival functionally, serves to expose the lay-people to the wonders of magic thereby potentially enticing young minds into their exclusive, secretive circle. Politically, this also provides a friendly face for the secretive mages who can hold such sway over the Mistwood Lakes.
The main courtyard - a mile square mazelike botanical garden with a fountain centerpiece, is temporarily converted for a week long celebration into a Winter Wonderland, where the time of day and climate are all manipulated to create merriment. Entry is free for all!
All Colleges of Magic (each representing a school of magic) participate in the festivity.
Additionally represented are: The Bards College, The Sacred Grove (druidic magic)
The Solminary (Divine magic school of Soldin)
History
Starting as a government sanctioned holiday, The Crown suggested the festival of Wintertide serve as a mark of accomplishment given that the Mistwood Lakes had survived yet another year locked in the mists. Overtime as the city flourished the Holiday also became to represent remembering the past while looking forward to the future.
The Arcanus Academia became involved given that their academic school year begins on the second day of the New Year and a festival is always planned to welcome students and interest new minds to magical curriculum.
