Bright colors, eye catching banners and signs, a mix of twinkling armor, tools, jewelry, precious stones, fresh produce. Anything and everything legal is sold here. Often, many stalls have visible arms and signs to deter pickpockets and thieves. "MIND YOUR PURSE" is a phrase frequently found on signs.
The landscape is almost entirely flat with little in terms of paved/cobble roads. Often the foot traffic leaves the area flat and muddy.
History
Furthest from the upscale noble's quarters and guild run market streets, Fairside is established as a market by the people, for the people. An open air market of tents, stalls and fences that stretches over a baker's dozen blocks, the market famously has no governing body and resembles a strict anarchy. The City does not tax the enterprises in the area and therefore do not Guard the market, instead allowing it to self regulate on the condition Fairside troubles do not spill into the wider city. Guild run business establishments have suspiciously found their stocks destroyed by strangers in the night. With a lack of enthusiasm from the Silver Shields to protect the area, Guilds keep to their official market districts. This leaves the Fairside Markets to be almost entirely family run.
Citizens that wish to sell within the market find real estate to be scarce and competitive, with the free space and stock being the only requirements to begin selling. Rarely will someone find magical items.
During the Summer months, space is "voluntarily" made for the Midsummer festival which includes carnival activities - many businesses contribute their wares to make this happen.
