The ability to practice sorcery, spellcasting and magic comes from manipulating the aetherweb-- the latent ambient aether that hangs unseen in the very air and inside the spellcaster's own body. Creatures with aetherdense blood, such as Elves, have a naturally high ability to spellcast as a result of their body held in alignment with latent aether. This allows magic to flow easily from the intent of the caster and take physical form.

Creatures with low aetherdensity blood must often come up with alternative methods to access suspended aether with which to create magical attacks and effects.

Blood-Bound Sorcery

Unlike their Valari counterparts, dark elves possess less aetherdense blood. This limitation hinders their ability to directly manipulate ambient aether for traditional elemental magic. To compensate, dark elf sorcerers have developed a unique form of magic that draws its power from stolen blood. This practice, while taboo among many Nheran peoples, allows them to wield potent spells, their magic fueled by the very essence of life itself. This contrasts with the Valari, whose magic flows freely from their connection to the unseen realm and highlights the unique challenges and adaptations of the dark elves.
