A soulforge (or soulthreader) is not often a physical forge but rather a confluence or space where aether may coalesce to create physical life and imbue it with a waiting soul.

The Soulweaving process is different for every species as each species has a unique soulforge located in their various halls of afterlife.

Not many mortal races are aware of their time outside of physical life and their time in any soulforge or afterlife is swiftly forgotten. Some races do not pass through a soulforge at all and merely inhabit a body requiring a spark. Their bodies are more heavily influenced by their people's genetics and are susceptible to illness, senescence and disease.

For elves, the soulforge might resemble something of a mirror. How they imagine themselves in the life they're to live is how they appear and is thusly how they manifest or will look after birth. Elves, created for a specific purpose, do not experience the same complications of embodiment that mortals might.
